I carry a Glock 34 with extended magazines on duty. The total capacity of the gun as loaded is 21 rounds of 9mm. I was waiting in line to order a burger during lunch when a civilian asked me what was on my magazine. I explained to him it was a mag extension that took my as loaded capacity to 21 rounds. He then asked, "Why do you need 21 bullets loaded in your gun?" Without thinking, I answered, "In case I meet 21 bad guys that need shot." My boss was in line with me for lunch and wasn't thrilled with my answer. :D
As a citizen I approve of this answer.

Oh yeah, it typically takes 3 or more rounds to stop a threat in a gun fight, according to the FBI. Start compounding the number of bad guys you might encounter in a gun fight and you'll want mag capacity!
True, it's 2 close grove 9mm rounds to put a shock and stop someone.

im not a set fan of any certain round in a handgun. all handgun rounds tend to be a compromise at best when it comes to defense. ballistics can be an ongoing back and forth. its often oranges and apples. people seem to fall into 1 of 3 categories of belief. 1. fast, light, penetration 2. the heavy slow hard thumpers, big energy slap without over penetration , big wound channel. 3. whatever the newest fancy tech is in a cool box with names like "critical defense" or "hydro-shock". im not against any of the three or promoting. a guy that loads his own ammo made me a box of .38 super not hot loads or anything crazy. just the full power load from back in the day. he uses recipes from old load manuals / books mostly from the 1950 - 1970s. after running that box of his ammo i was shocked at the performance difference. he explained that ammo manufactures typically go to milder loading in most everything they sell for customer safety / protection from legal issues. idk but it made sense.

Yes, I’m still using the old (1970) Lyman manual and cast (Matts Bullets) 250 grain wad cutters.

I'm going to pick up a Walther PDP 4" compact in 9mm and run the Norma MHP's (Monolithic Hollow Point) for EDC....providing they feed properly. After seeing the MHP's in ballistic gel and the massive expansion, they should provide adequate for stopping power.

We have 2 Walthers and love them both. PK380 and P22. I got them for my wife because the slide was easy to manipulate and they fit her hands pretty well.

Most people I've heard say "you only need _ rounds" or "it's close enough you won't need more than 6" are the same people that miss paper targets at 7 yards when you put them under stress.

I do not subscribe to the mozambique method of 2 to the chest and 1 to the head......I'd prefer "a lot to the everywhere" and bought steel glock mags that carry 2-3 extra rounds at the same size, and carry extra mags.

if you carry a walther dont you have to say things like, "shaken not stirred" or be moderately over dressed most of the time lol.

There is that expectation, sure.
But I fail to live up to expectations all the time :)

I prefer the methodology of, "My pistol's purpose is to buy me time to get to my rifle."

The only problem is concealability with the rifle. Something like the scorpion might be a little more practical. I'd like a way to conceal a AR pistol. Even stashing it in the ranger out of sight but reachable is a challenge

Build A shorter barrel AR pistol. This is my 4" one and I have them in 6" and up. Great for a truck gun and nice and light too minus the larger red dot.

I have a AR pistol lower so I think I can swap other "pistol uppers" onto it. My reading had me thinking a serial numbered rifle must always have a rifle upper on it, same with a pistol lower. Mine is a 9 of 10 inch, maybe I could get a shorter one for truck duty.
