I like the looks of the scorpion. Do they sill offer the folding "brace"
AFAIK they never passed the law banning them. I still have one on mine. :D

Unfortunately I lost all my firearms in a strange boating accident ;)
I may pick up something to replace them.

Rural king usually stocks the Freedom Ordnance FX-9. It's about $300 less than the scorpion an gets great reviews. If I decide to buy one I might have to part with my Kel tec sub 2000 to fund it. it's a fun toy but I don't consider it a serious weapon. Too temperamental. Picky about ammo too.

I know someone who bought on of these recently and has nothing but problems. It's been back 2-3 times now and it jams and stove pipes on almost every shot. Not saying they're all like that but he didn't want to spend the extra money for a Scorpion and now he's regretting it. I've run everything including cheap Wolf steel casing through mine and have never had any problems. This is one of my favorite guns, super accurate and a blast (literally) to shoot. Even more so now it's suppressed.

there's tons of videos of guys shooting them with no problem. Maybe he got a bad one. I usually disassemble a new weapon to clean an oil it an check for burs an polish the feed ramp. Seems like the higher the price the more time the company spends on this. I just cleaned an oiled my Sigs but the lower end stuff got a once over.

I'm sure it was but it seemed like when he sent it back they never were able to fix it right. I always strip mine down too, heck my Scorpion I had apart the day I got it. I polished the feed ramp and I already had a new spring kit, trigger and a whole bunch of other stuff waiting. That's why I never went overboard modding my Ranger, I spent it all on guns, suppressors and ammo. lol

since i am Canadian eh? I don't have the liberties you guys south of the border do.
I'm not against carrying a weapon for protection, but to me there's a fine line on protection vs being the aggressor in a situation.

for example...if i had a nice setup like you guys around Toronto, and so did others (its obvious that 45% of Toronto residents carry a smuggled handgun)....it would likely be a daily occurrence to have shootouts on the 401 or Don Valley Parkway as road rage peaks during drive time.
It wouldn't be me popping the first shot as I have restraint for idiotic driving, but I would definitely return fire if my life was in danger.

So my question i guess is this....should i spend more time in the range, practicing accuracy so I only need one clip for the daily drive, or should I carry many clips and just randomly fire at will until the threat is extinguished?

Practice makes consistent. My Armorer friend told me once, all I need is a 7 round. 45s instead of a 15 round 9mm. He said if I can't hit the target in one round then I need practice.

I carry a .357 so only 6 rounds. They say most self defense firings happen at 7 ft. I'm pretty good at 7 ft. I practice at 7 yards an with a 2" barrel that's another story. Throw some panic an adrenaline in an who knows.

Here's my .357 with a TacMag holding it to the center console. It's hard to see an it's easy to grab.

I carry a Glock 34 with extended magazines on duty. The total capacity of the gun as loaded is 21 rounds of 9mm. I was waiting in line to order a burger during lunch when a civilian asked me what was on my magazine. I explained to him it was a mag extension that took my as loaded capacity to 21 rounds. He then asked, "Why do you need 21 bullets loaded in your gun?" Without thinking, I answered, "In case I meet 21 bad guys that need shot." My boss was in line with me for lunch and wasn't thrilled with my answer. :D

Oh yeah, it typically takes 3 or more rounds to stop a threat in a gun fight, according to the FBI. Start compounding the number of bad guys you might encounter in a gun fight and you'll want mag capacity!

The TV shoot outs where the bad guys take cover an exchange fire look like they go through a lot of ammo. Don't know how often that situation actually happens. Around here the crime is low except for the drug dealing areas an public housing areas an shooting are rare. I'd bet most officers rarely even pull their weapon from the holster. The Chief hangs out in my favorite sports bar I'll have to ask him about it. He's chief in the city with the drug an housing areas. The bar in in a city where Andy could be chief without a gun.

One of my co-workers (now retired) got in a shootout with a wanted person. The perp fired the first round, from a .45 Glock. It hit my coworker in the face, traced around his cheek bone and skull, and exited out his neck. The second and third rounds hit his vest. The fourth round, ironically the one that gives him the most trouble, hit him in the leg. He suffers nerve issues/pain from that one still. His return fire hit the upstanding citizen several times, knocking him down. The guy kept firing from the seated position until the last round entered his face approximately where his upper lip was. You can imagine where it ended up. :) The opinion of the M.E. was one of the rounds that hit the perps chest was absolutely and massively fatal. The guy was still working with an exploded heart for a second before the last round ended up in his brain.

.45 has HORRIBLE ballistics. We've shot several at different media, and it's amazing how crap it is. We recovered .45 slugs that actually had the angle of the windshield we shot it at (not through!) pressed into the nose. Modern 9mm hits soooooo much better. I love my .40. I carry a .45 on a rare occasion. But I'm liking the 9mm more and more. Modern 9mm that is.
