help a caveman with forscan

i keep hearing about all the things forscan can do. i wanna do some of those. but i have never seen the device and have zero clue what it "is", how to use it and where to get one. i did finally figure out its some sort of electronic witchcraft. anyone point me to what i need, how to make it do its dance?
at the moment i want it to stop the fake engine noises, be able to run fogs and high beams in unison and change the touch screen display to have something cool instead of the blue oval.

Much info on here and YouTube has plenty of tutorials videos.
It’s pretty easy once you get started.

Start with Forscan.org. They recommend an OBD unit that is compatible with the software. Get a laptop PC and download the software. Read through the thread here and on the their website. Some features will not be usable unless you buy the key code from them. This is crowd sourced and not a company so you’re helping the developers. Enjoy it and the power it gives you to make it your truck!

One word of warning that some here have encountered. Before you get in there and tinker with anything. Backup each module and name it so that you know exactly what you backed up. I created a directory (stock) and saved to it. I did this the first time I paired with the truck. I now have the complete factory fileset library for my delivered vehicle. That way if I do something wrong or I want it back to stock just load each module and call it a day.

so i downloaded the software on my laptop and just browsed around it and the web page. lots of acronyms that i dont know what they mean. clearly i will need to go about this carefully... almost too afraid to monkey with it.

This youtube video is pretty good - although it talks about an F-150, the process is the same and he is pretty detailed in the explanations I think:



The single most important thing (as others have mentioned) is to make sure and back up ALL the modules before doing ANYTHING. If you back them up before you start doing anything you can always restore the originals if something goes sideways.

not at all wrong,with all the news of the v8s going away and electric cars im pretty sad. things like forescan and tuning are great. but, could have had a v8.

so i hooked up the obd port cord to the laptop and it connected read the modules etc. no trouble codes, thankfully. and now im waiting on access from the forescan forum. i still get that lil dont mess with it feeling... im tempted to buy the overpriced bambi mode pop in loader and be done... ?
i will dig more when i get the full access.

just watch the YouTube videos on making a back up file an make them. That way you can return it to stock if something goes wrong.
