After I was confident there was enough oil to fill the filter and run safely I ran it 10 minutes, shut it down and pulled the stick, cleaned it and left it out for 10 minutes. I rotated my tires, then went back to the oil stick and did a slow install and removal, which was reasonably defined after settling. Topped up 1/4 liter and the stick was useless again, so that's where I left it.
I can see it now DEE ZEE oil dipstick tube squeegie, use this to push the oil back down the tube, before using the dipstick to check fill level.

Oh yeah!

Well you always say the damper is to slow so now you can add one and while it's lowering go and check your oil. ?

Now I'm off to do some R&D on a dipstick squeegee. ?‍♂?
And yet, you manually do a "SLOW INSTALL" of the dipstick which is probably 15, 20 times as long as a damper...makes one wonder why you never used the Dave's 303 Slip n Slide Spray on, Wipe off for Dips?

It was only 45F when I did my oil, I would have to open unlatch the tailgate first step before starting the oil change, with the cold factor slowing it even more.

R&D on the Dee-Zee Jay-Zee Squee-Gee?

The only way I've been able to get a reasonable oil level reading is to park the truck on level ground and check the oil after it has been setting overnight. I check it 1st with out wiping the oil off and then again after wiping the oil off. I'm thinking that the oil needs a lot of time to drain off the dipstick.

I check the oil after I change it, and if smell, drips, or light comes on. One slow penetration I can deal with (Without Dave's "special lube") but dropping the tailgate daily would take years off my life.

DIY garge tips or porn?

Remember to wipe off that dipstick, and get some slip'n'slide on it before you stick it in!

Well, a cold engine sitting overnight did the trick...still need the full blast of the sun to see that I'm right on the mark... ? ?

Glad you were finaly able to figure it out.
Yes, it's a pain, I seem to try like 10 times & finaly one side will make sense, but I still
wonder if I'm reading it right.

This high tech device shouldn't be so ambiguous...I wonder what @P. A. Schilke thinks about this?

Isn't that the oil idiot light? Do Rangers have that? Or did they remove that for 21 model... ?

Hi Sid,

I am in the same boat with reading the dipstick...had to wait until the next morning after I did the oil change... Have yet to figure out why this is a problem. Suspect it is location of the dip stick but have not pursued. Maybe Ford should shorten the dipstick like the transmission?

best,
Phil

FWIW, I can't think of one vehicle I have owned over the past 50 years that I could check the oil right after changing it or shutting it off. The oil draining down from the top of the engine drips onto the dipstick and gives you a false reading. It takes quite awhile for all the oil to run back into the pan and get an accurate reading, an hour or two minimum.

The one unusual thing I have noticed with the three 2.3 Ecoboost powered vehicles I have owned is the oil level on the dipstick varies quite a bit between hot and cold. If I check the oil first thing in the morning after sitting all night it will be at the top of the hash marks. If I let it sit an hour after having been throughly warmed up it will read half way between the top of the hash marks and the max fill hole. Over the years I have had vehicles with automatic transmissions that had minimum marks for cold and hot but I have never noticed enough of a change with the engine between hot and cold to note it.
