FX4 vs 4x4 ground clearance

Hi folks, long time lurker on this forum, first time posting. I tried searching for this but couldn’t find any info.

My question is about the published ground clearance of 8.9 inches on 4x4 Rangers. For XL AND XLT trims the FX4 package comes with 265/65R17 tires, while the 4x4 comes with 255/65R17 tires. It seems these 2 tires have a difference in diameter of 0.5 inches (30.1 vs 30.6) which would equate to ~0.25 inches difference in ground clearance. So ultimately, I’m curious if the official ground clearance number of 8.9 is for an FX4 or a 4x4?

I realize this is a small difference but since ground clearance is reported to the nearest tenth of an inch, I would think this would be reported. Or am I missing something entirely?

Hi,

If tires sitting on the ground were perfectly round, there would be a difference based on tire size but with weight on the tires I am guessing the difference is not worth the time for Service Engineering to measure if they are still the ones to determine the numbers. JMO, this is picking the flyshit out of the pepper...

Just fill the 255 tires up to 120psi and you can probably get over 9"

Just a guess, but I would assume it is measured with a top trim truck and likely not repeatable

Am I missing something both tires are 65/17 so same height. The Width is the big number and it has nothing to do with height. So they should both be the same height unless one has different suspension under it.

65 is the aspect ratio. So since it is a ratio, the wider the tire, the taller it will be for the same ratio.

Are they 265/60R18 tires?

Yes they are. Truck has black appearance package and 302A package and tow package... I don't think it has any other options, so I'm thinking maybe they came with the black appearance package. Don't real know. I think I still have the window sticker stashed in the glove compartment so I could check that.
