I got a great price on it to make it worth it to me. Plus that extra warranty, peace of mind. I also found out that you cannot defeat the system aka remove a tune back to stock, to dealer for a problem, each time you swap tunes you reset the key starts (or push button) to zero so if a guy lies after his cheap tune messes up his truck and tried a warranty claim, they will look at the key or button starts vs mileage and
Time etc. I asked about the auto start stops, if it affects that and was told no. Just the actually starting. They can also tell by removing the heads and looking at the pistons , fuel spray pattern stains are different.

Funny story with that, the dealer told me a guy bought a mustang GT from them, put a self tune in it and took it to a 1/4 mile drag strip for a whole day, ran the crap out of the Mustang and ended up trashing the tranny and some engine parts, he swapped his oem tune back in and tried a warranty claim and was denied. The dealer & Ford denied his claim due to the key starts and fuel spray and other stuff. The guy came in complaining was gonna sue etc, they took him back to the shop to his Mustang and the service manager reached into the cupholder and pulled out a handfull of run times and receipts from the track with his plate, Name and Vin on them...idiot got his car out of there (towed) and never came back ????, Darwins theory is alive and well, the dumb ones weed themselves out!
I was thinking about this as well.

I am sure a lot of us thought about removing the tune and back to stock before going to the dealer to keep warranty, or at least mitigate blaming the tune.

But i was thinking they could probably see that it has been altered and at what time etc. possibly when it was changed back

Or can they only tell if you have "push to start" and taking off the heads to check spray patterns? i was thinking they could probably check the computer to see if and when it was altered etc or am over thinking this one haha

Yeah that is what im afraid of happening. Even if they did not void the extended warranty, after 36/36k miles and in the event of a failure, they will more than likely say it was the tune, leaving you alone, cold, broken hearted, Rangerless and poorer  and a voided warranty haha

I can see why they wouldnt want to honor the extended warranty too though, its literally adding more strain to the powertrain etc why would they want to still cover a motor/trans that is higher risk.

I do think it sucks though. I wish they would keep the extended warranty. Otherwise why would you go with FP over other brands? if they only cover for 36/36kmi other companies do the same like roush. If the warranty is voided, i really would just go Livernoise and get those big boy gains :muscle:
Well, I'm going to do it, as for myself, I doubt I'll hit 36k miles within the next 7 years! I'm so close to everything around me, LOL! My (recently sold) 03 FX4 Ranger had something like 145k miles on it in 2015. It was my daily driver until 2 weeks ago. It had I think 177K miles on it, when I sold it to a co-worker. That's 32k miles driven in 6 years, LOL! I drive 30 miles round trip to work, per one week :)

I've had the '21 almost 2 weeks and just barely went over 300 miles on the odometer today, LOL!

So, I know that's not everyone, but I'm going to get it the way I want it, then I'm going to put the FP or Roush tune on it.

You are definitely correct was Ford being able to tell how many times it has been since the tune has been removed. Ford purposely put this in their diagnostic software because they know people will modify their vehicles especially on the performance line. I remember seeing a bulletin about it when I was working at a Ford dealership. It's quite interesting to say the least

I was really hoping i was wrong about that haha! But thank you for that verification. With all the technology now adays I just assumed Ford (and any other motor company for that matter) would implement that into their diagnostics, or just a way to keep track of that. Easy for them to program it that way.

I'm still on the first tank of full from the dealer. We picked it up on October 16th, it had 5 miles on it, we drove it around for 8 more miles, then did the paperwork and they filled it up before we took it home. I drove it to my dads house and then my stepfather's house, then he wanted to drive it around some and we tried out "sport" mode on some twisty mountains around here. This morning, my wife and I were running some errands and the 50 miles till empty light popped up. It's got something like 308 miles on it now, my old Ranger barely got 200 miles to a tank, so this is great!

So, if Roush warranties their tune for 36k miles, I think I'll be in good shape! Mine's going to look just like my profile pic looks, so Ford is gonna sh*t themselves, when, rather if, they see it, LOL!

Yeah man they are great little trucks. You will love it just like your old ranger. The gas was stellar for a mdisize truck. After i did some upgrades, lift and 33" tires, my gas....well.....has caused suffering haha but totally worth it. If i ever pull the trigger on the tune, it will help the mpg a lot, so ive heard -if running a lift and larger tires. I really do end up liking it more and more each day and every mile i drive it. Only thing is the transmission, the notorious lugging in "D", sport really has no problem but its fairly aggressive for daily commuting. Throw it in "tow Mode" and it helps a lot. I usually lock out 8,9, and 10 and cruise in 7th gear (around 45-50mph) and 2k rpm around city and no lugging at all, and better gas than it basically stalling in 10th haha

Yea, I could imagine, that's one reason I went 2wd. When I drop it, the tire height will be the same, just a little wider wheel. I remember buy my '06 Wrangler Rubicon, it was all stock when I bought it, then 1.5 years later, I had a 5.5" long arm lift on it, with 35's and a ton of armor, LOL! Mileage/power went down BIG time, drover 40 miles round trip to work 5 days a week, OMG, it was so awful, but we had a ton of fun offroading it!

Sorry to hijack this thread and talk about my old Jeeping days :D
