I imagine they'd need to replace every single electrical component and wire in the truck which will involve heavy disassembly and even after all that I wouldn't trust that it'd be back to good-as-new. They could spend a hundred days working on it and I believe it would be a hundred days wasted.

Poor guy. Insurance needs to step up for him and do the right thing and mercy kill that truck :(.

His quote:
Pretty much put my truck in intensive care," Foraker said.
He said the truck was in the shop for 40 days while mechanics tried to revive it, but he is now resigned to simply buying a replacement vehicle.

Strange call! Either he or his insurance must have spent a small fortune attempting that repair, only to back out after so much sunk time and money. Either way! Glad it sounds like he had the option to replace it.

assuming they actually did an hour of billable work--it might have just sat for 40 days waiting for parts ?‍♂

Lightning is a fickle beast, and you never know when or where you're going to get hit.

As an mobile amateur radio operator, I've been hit three times (think antenna sticking up in the air). The last time, all it did was melt the solder connections in the matching coil, burned a hole in the corona ball, and heated the whip enough to make it bend over. At the time, I was listening to weather radio, and nothing happened to the amateur radio transceiver, or anything else in the truck (Honda Ridgeline).

" all it did was..." [proceeds to list examples of the destruction of metal objects]

Its actually Dave's cousin....and he's afraid to say that it looks like the damper acted like a lightening rod and actually attracted the lightening to the vehicle.
Thats bad publicity for the Damper Camp. I'm busting out the story and sad to say the Dampers days are numbered now
Acttually, it acted in an appropriate damper manner and acted as a grounding rod ... Channeled enough of the strike into blowing the ecoboost badge right off the tailgate. o_O
