Yeah just used to the good ol' 230F is where trans fluid starts to break down but if this trans/fluid is happy there then all good by me. That will save me the $800+ for a radiator upgrade.

Mostly trying to find out when should I pull over and give it a break. Wondering when I should look at giving it a break and at what temp does the light come on. Manual doesn't mention it and the dealer has not returned my call (not surprised).
Thankfully the synthetic transmission fluid doesnt start to break down until 250°F so you good sir.

You’re still worrying about something you don’t need to. This isn’t the 70’s you should never have to pull over and let the tranny cool. Remember the same transmission that’s in your little Ranger is the same transmission that’s in a F-150 with 400+HP towing up to 13,000 pounds. That setup creates much more heat than our little truck and even they should have no overheating issues. I highly doubt they do

I don't tow anything and still see Trans Temps up to 212 depending on my foot, ambient air temp and driving conditions. Sounds to me like it doesn't matter if your towing or not, same operating temperatures.

Man, for some reason thought it was at 230F. Ok, well that basically tells me not to worry. I am guessing that is about where the light turns on then.

Hey, lol just saw you work for Crown, used to work there a few years in CA then later Raymond before switching industries. Man, PPO used to only be something like $10-15/mo back then in 2007.

Well, you never pull over and SHUT OFF the engine for a hot trans to cool but yeah, seems there is nothing to worry about even at 230F.

Ford used to have an external cooler on the max towing package on the F150 so I was not sure where the limit was with the 10spd in the Ranger's cooling. Seems there is nothing to worry about. I will still monitor temps while towing in the summer considering desert temps here are often over 110F but glad to hear it seems this trans likes these temps.... opposed to my other vehicle where Honda says that I should keep it under 220F...Honda...yup crossover, that's why we got a truck haha

Thanks for the input, appreciated.

Hello,

I am prepping for our first weekend towing our trailer with our Ranger Tremor. This week I will be hooking up a Scan Gauge ii to see normal temps but what do you guys get when towing a travel trailer? I will be towing a Geo pro 19BH/19ft 4200lbs (loaded) travel trailer in the NV/AZ area so temps will be about 100F. I have just crossed the 1000mile mark which the manual says to do before towing, granted I wish I had more miles on it before this trip.

Anyways, do you guys find that the stock setup cools the trans well in these temps? What is the peak temps you guys get? Our Honda Pilot seemed to stay under 200F with the factory external cooler and only would break 200F sometimes when climbing. Reading post in here, seems like the Ranger trans will run warmer?

What is the max temp I should consider pulling over for a break? I assume by the time the light comes on it has already been too hot?

Google was hard to get info since it was mostly F150 post it would pull up and some of them had an external cooler with the max tow package? Searched this forum but the info was not exactly what I was looking for.

Any info would be appreciated. Trying to get off on the right foot with this truck and towing.

Thanks
How do you monitor trans temp? Just buying a trailer (only 2000lbs)

Most like myself have a gauge monitor that comes with tunes for the trucks. Others may have a phone app with the different monitors

I use a Scan Gauge II, there are extra codes you can put into it to check sensors not in there by default.

Edit: Want to add, if a 2000lb travel trailer. It will be a breeze but I still agree about monitoring temps. At least till you know how the truck does towing.

Getting ready to mount my Scan Gauge in my 2021. Have to figure out how to program it for the tranny temps.

Forgot the exact code but here is the X-Gauge command page
https://www.scangauge.com/support/x-gauge-commands/ford-lincoln-mercury/

I ended up mounting mine with double sided tape below the handle to pop off the interior fuse cover. The way I sit at least, I can spy the temps through the steering wheel when I need to peek at em. The extra cord length I just wrapped it around the steering column, easy to hide that way.

I'm just finishing up making a small mount that will let me mount it on the steering column just behind the steering wheel. Used a small piece of pvc trim that I had lying around, shaped it to fit the curve of the column with a flat on top to velcro the gauge to.
White piece is the pvc trim....black piece is what I trimmed it too...curve matches the top of steering column. Nother coat of paint and I'll mount it.
Sits low enough that it dosen't block dash gauges.

Nice! Yeah in the Vegas heat I have issues with it sticking how I have it mounted. What your doing looks solid though.

Heavy duty velcro to attach it to column, same to mount gauge to it.
Send you a pic when I'm done.

This is what the EZ Pass office provides to attach their transponder to the windshield. I buy it at Walmart. The glue is very strong, but is easily cleaned off with Goo Gone.

I think my main problem is the grain on the plastic and the fact that it gets probably over 130F inside the truck in the summer when it is 110F outside. When it is under 100F I do not have issues with it coming off. I also did not put the tape across the whole side of the gauge, so I can add more next time..

I have tried the thick clear 3M and Gorilla Glue tapes, I think both rather for 10-15lbs? Eh, not too worried at this moment.

Thanks, today was 101F when I brought the trailer home, small drive but a few red lights. Peak I saw was 215F on the trans but prior to towing it was at about 210F peak anyway. Somewhere between 205-210F without towing so I guess she likes to run warm.

That said, the way home with the red lights and all usually created hotter temps in the Pilot than freeway driving so I am thinking things will be ok.

I am at this point more concerned about taking it easy because I only have 1060miles on it. Passed the 1000mile mark but wish I was able to get to 2000-3000miles. Ford should know best so gonna trust the manual's break in numbers.

How are you viewing the Transtemp? I have the OBDLinkMX+ and neither the app that comes with that or ForscanLite iOS app will show Trans temp (or I can;t find it). The Transtemp status in Forscan Lite gives me status (No Fault)

Thanks
