I currently have a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7 diesel, and as much as I love the size of the 3/4 ton. Some days it just feels too big and too expensive.

I have a 20' Pro Line center console that weighs 5,000 pounds loaded on the trailer, and am worried about pulling the trigger on towing that with a Ranger. Does anyone have relatable experience pulling a center console boat of this size.

I two a 4000 pound SeaRay with my Ranger and it tows very well. I replaced a 2500 Sierra with the Ranger and I was also concerned. My dealer loaned me a Ranger demo for a day to tow the boat and after that I had no concerns.

With your boat weight the Ranger will likely tow it fine, but you will have to watch the GCWR carefully. You will be limited in how much you can load up the Ranger (passengers and gear) when towing.

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate the input, and idea. I’ll have to talk with my local Ford dealer about test towing with one.

What kind of mileage are you getting while towing?

Hello - congrats - I have towed with Ford Expeditions 5.4, and F150 (5.4, 5.0 and 3.5EB) and I also have a 2019 Ranger Lariat FX4 now with the 2.3 EB.
It is a capable tow vehicle ... the 2.3 is fine for my 3,000 to 4,400 ski boat rigs ... although I am not sure I prefer it when I am fully at 5,000 on my bigger ski boat.
To be clear ... the truck handles the trailer well ... but the engine would benefit of being bigger as you get close to the 7,000 tow limit.

I would be nervous about going much over 5,000 lbs and towing it long distances up mountains, etc.

My regular mileage not towing is about 21.8 -22.3 MPG and towing I have seen 8-12 mpg on my Ranger towing ski boats. (I wish the gas tank was bigger.)

Send a pic !

Rangers are quite capable for towing. I was pretty impressed my first time hauling a bobcat. But some may get the idea this is ok to do with larger loads though once they think it can handle anything ?

As you probably know the tow limit is 7500 lbs so theoretically you have 2500 lbs to play with. Others on here tow trailers at and above 5000 lbs. Be aware of GCWR. As a point of reference I've towed a 32 ft 5th wheel with a 1995 Dodge Cummins that had 160 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque and a 4 speed automatic and it was fine, so the Ranger has plenty of power to tow to the GCWR limit.

My boat is probably 4,000lbs with a full tank of fuel. Ranger handles it quite well and I have no issues or concerns for relatively local towing. Not sure I'd want to pull this across the country, but no doubt the Ranger is capable of it if I needed it to.

Trip computer typically indicates 13-16 MPG depending on head/tail winds.

I pull about the same weight boat with no issues. I did switch out the old surge brakes for a electric / hydro set up. I have to pull through the city at highway speeds and wanted the extra and quicker stopping power. I also run the Livernois Tow Tune.

My 22' TT is pretty easy - 4400# - Trips to Dolores CO, Yellowstone, and this year Glacier NP.

Little more challenge with my 26' Beneteau 26 - 7000#..

Ranger_Bene.webp

And when I feel like getting offroad - my little popup is hardly noticeable @ 3500#

Note - for the longer on-road adventures, I keep a set of OEM tires and rims. For offroad and local, the 315s do just fine.

Setup: 5000# airbags, Brake Controller, bunch of bolt on engine stuff, 5 Star towing tune, and travel around 65mph
