Just wanted to get everyones thoughts on towing a bass boat.

I have a 2019 Ranger XLT bone stock. I have a 20ft Ranger bass boat riding on a single axle trailer with non-working surge brakes. Driving to my local lake has been find with a 5" drop hitch. I am curious how what your thoughts are with town long distances with a boat this size with not really having any working brakes on the trailer.

I tow a 4000 pound boat/trailer (single axle) with disc surge brakes. I would not tow it without working brakes.

I think Indiana state law requires brakes on any trailer exceeding 3000 pounds. If your boat/trailer exceeds that there would be steep liability issues in an accident.

I wouldn't tow anything over like 2k, 2.5k without trailer brakes.

I'm assuming you have a pretty good chunk of change invested in the boat and truck. I would spend the couple hundred bucks more and get the brakes working.

I know I would feel horrible if I hit someone because I didn't spend the cash to get brakes on my camper.

Sounds like I better get the brakes fixed ASAP. This is my first boat, it is a cheap project boat and the previous owner welded the surge brakes so they don't work. He told me it was no problem. Sounds like I shouldn't have listened to him.

Now it's time to research how to replace the brakes on this thing. I appreciate the help everyone.
