Thank you for investing some time to answer our, mostly mine, questions.

I think it's very forthright of you to do so in order to help the community as a whole understand the situation. Let alone a nosey outsider like myself.

I will definitely be considering you guys when it comes to my future modifications.
No worries. It is something different, so questions are welcome, and we're happy to answer (without getting into the super-specifics or customer personal info).

We appreciate your future business!

Random Ranger5g Posters: 5-Star tunes have problems.

That's not really a fair characterization.

For one, the contention is less about 5-Star having questionable tunes and more "why is 5-Star so special to have a third-party warranty attached", which I think is a legitmate line of questioning.

Secondly, you're likewise taking my word on our decision-making progress. Granted, I've been on internet forums since I was 12, so I know better than to lie.

Money talks, bullshit walks. You wouldn't offer the program if the numbers didn't match. I get it you have to keep a professional tone in conversation.

My comment had more to do with other threads where certain members were being a little too fan-boy'ish for other tuners. Kind of an inside joke thing.

I'm pretty random. But I responded quite respectfully, I thought, towards Stage 3.

That doesn't mean that I don't see POSSIBLE issues with 5 Star's methods. Or that anybody else has to see those possible issues.

It does go to show that an upstanding business will respond to community queries when given a chance to.

While I respect their opinion, 5 Star's trust in Stage 3 is not something I share just yet. And that's fine, maybe that'll change in the future. Maybe not.

I believe the dealership you are dealing with has and is trying to rip you off. I had a rod knock in my car I brought it to the dealer for repairs car was still under warranty i didn't have to shell out money for them to diagnose what went wrong. The 14k is ridiculous look on line ford sells their 2.3 ecoboost for 5299.99. I just checked with the ford dealer and was quoted 22 hours at 139.00 an hour to swap out a 2.3 eco in a ranger thats 3058.00 for labor. Good luck with your endeavor[/QUOTE]

I don't believe that FPP engine is a direct replacement in the ranger but the correct one is just about a grand higher. Either way does not add up to 14k. Only engine replacement I remember in that price range was a 6.7PS.

You guys also have to remember he has a hefty bill for teardown and diagnostic to pay as well. I wanna say it was $2000. It was stated by them he wouldn't have to pay it if covered.

Also, 2ford, IIRC your anecdotal story happened log ago (swapped carb and headers) before warranty denial for modifications became a real thing, late 90's early 2000's.

It's pricey for sure, but not completely out of line for dealership work. And unfortunately for 5 Star to pay the warranty it appears he has to use the dealership.

TL: DR

It's no longer 1982

does he have the option to find another dealer because i kinda believe he is being rooked here.

didnt i read the comment that the 14 grand was putting it back into full warranty? so does that mean he has to pay them to remove all his mods and have them install stock items again, then they wave their magic wand, pour some holy water on it and bless it as good as new again?

i'd sooner take a crate motor at 6 grand and do it myself in the garage.
I imagine that back to OE is the only way to retain factory warranty. The thing about it is that it would NOT extend the warranty beyond the original 5/60. You only get 1 factory warranty.

Not so dealer refused to replace the short block because of mods area rep overrode dealer. I find a 5k difference in repair work outrageous and the warranty work is with Ford not necessarily the dealer who is trying to rip him off.

Added " who is " after dealer
