Very tempting!! I'd love to get that and run my stock wheels with a few sizes bigger tires on there
I thought about that, but I was under the impression that larger (at least wider) wheels would be difficult on the stock wheels unless you run spacers, because of the proximity of the knuckle to the inner tire sidewall. Thought about this a lot myself as it saves $$ vs. buying 5 new wheels w/ offset when I have these perfectly good, new sport wheels.

Well, I found this video on YouTube that does a great job of explaining backspace and offset so now I am pretty much an expert on the subject ;). https://youtu.be/6-S5Qicb31Y
From what I am understanding, If Icon is stating 6" of backspace for their stage 1/2/3 kits, then a wheel with a backspace of 4.5", like the ones on Icon's site and the rims I am looking at on Method's site, should give me even more clearance (more distance between the wheel and the suspension) than a wheel with a 6" backspace. Does this sound right to you guys/gals?
It will give you even more clearance between the spindle assembly, but if it pushes your wheel out further you may run into clearance issues with the fender well and body.

Yeah, considering the spindle assembly / knuckle is so close to the tire, anything wider is going to be very close to it with stock rims.

So it's possible to go with taller tires with the stock wheels but when you try to go wider tires on a stock wheel, then you'll get clearance issues?

From what Rough Country states on their level kit the stock wheels will fit a 255/75R17. I'd like to know if I can go taller than 75 on the stock wheels.

That seems about right, those are 32" x 10", so a bit taller and narrower, there is 3/4" clearance at full lock on the front with stock tires, which would equate to about a 31.5-32" tire. I don't think a taller tire will fit based on my measurements! But some tires don't measure exactly to spec and you always need to leave a bit of wiggle room for fitment.

Lifting a vehicle can obviously help with fitting tires, but in a lot of cases, it still requires trimming.

So tempting...but I have a few personal issues.

  1. Still needs to get decent mileage
  2. I have a dedicated off roader, and one in the build process.
  3. I swore I would leave it stock till the first set of tires ware out..:frown:
Should I start doing donuts and bunouts and then play dumb? ;)

If you sold the OEM tires, since they are in good shape, I'm guessing you could get $300-400 for them.

I just ordered the Rough Country leveling kit and I was about to pull the trigger on 275/70 18s but luckily I read this thread first haha. I wonder if anyone makes wheel spacers for this bolt pattern that would bring them out an inch or so.

Most definitely. 'hub-centric 1" 6x5.5 spacer' should get you a pretty good set of results all over the internet

Haha same as me, but looking at the rough country ranger I’m salivating for bigger tires!

I have the Rough Country 2.5" level kit coming on Wednesday. As far as tires go, I am going with what Icon recommends, 285/70R17. The rims I am going with will be either Icon or Method with a 0 offset and a backspacing of 4.75" on an 8.5" wide wheel. That should give me about 3 inches of clearance from the spindle. Of course since the OE wheel has an offset of 55mm, that means the the outside of the wheel will stick out about 2 inches further than stock. does this sound right to you guys?
