HI there people.

I need to pass an RG58 coaxial cable (about 5 mm outside diameter) from the outside of bed to the inside of the cab.

The coaxial cable will be for the antenna of a 2 way radio.

Any ideas on how to do this? Are there existing grommets I can use on the back of the cab? Should I just make a new hole?

I will appreciate any help.

Thanks

There are vents between the cab and bed that I passed mine through. It's for a 2-way radio as well, and there's a thread on this forum somewhere that talks about the rest.

I have a crewcab, and I mounted the radio body behind the rear drivers side seat where the B&O amp would be on models with the B&O stereo.

Otherwise, there's that really expensive high mount stop light antenna mount (NMO) style mount, but I'm not sure what kind of radio you're installing.

Thanks !! I just found the expensive mounts you mentioned. I may not want to use them because they will make the antenna even higher.
My antenna is aprox 39 inches.
I was thinking of using the T-slot of my Retrax Pro Cover to install a flat bracket NMO mount and just route the cable through a tailgate corner and then insisde the bed and then out the grommet to the space between the cab and the bed. That will allow me to store the antenna inside the bed when not in use.

But then I was lost on how to make it inside the cab. The location you mentioned in the rear seat is great for the actual transceiver if I use the remote head kit on it.

I just saw the 2 vents. I need to figure out how to go through them.

I could not find the other thread you mentioned.

Thanks again.

Bryan

I'll find the other thread...

The vents have a swinging louver, what I would recommend (and what I did) is lay the seat forward, remove the plastic trim below the rear window, peel down the carpet. Then I placed a string with a weight through it. Once the weight went down low enough, you can hook your coax end to it, and pull it back up and through the vent.

I have a Diamond 7500A antenna on a Diamond SPM-35 magnet. The PL-259 on the end of the coax "screws off" so that just the tip portion remains. The hole "should" fit a full PL-259, but it will be tight.

I also have small hands, so it wasn't hard for me to reach between the bed and cab, maybe find a skinny 10 year old, and give them a $20 to reach down there and put the coax in.

Thanks !!
I am planning of using wire hangers or ropes to fish and route the coax. Probably tie the coax to a rope below the are between the cab and bed and then pull it.

Installed your radio behind the rear seat or antenna? If antenna how's reception?
