Voice Control/Navagation

Okay, feeling pretty old and not very smart, or at least tech savy. I own three Ford vehicles and each has navigation. Despite my efforts over the years (by '12 Focus ST also had Nav) I am unable to vocally insert an address or POI successfully, particularly when that address is out-of-state. It goes like:

Navigation -> destination -> ??

If I try to input an address (XYZ street, Anytown, State) the nav goes goes to default mode, "You can select...." BTW, I have NO problem with my iPhone finding an address vocally, or manually inserting an address in Ford's Nav system.

You guy/gals here are a LOT more tuned in to current electronic things. Please walk me through the voice commands on how to verbally insert an address or POI out of state. Thank you.

You need to tell it to change the state/province, tell that info and then tell it the address in the correct format.

I'm 54 and have found I argue much less with synch navigation than I did with my previous Audi's.

Yes, I knew I had to change the state, but at what point to I make that insertion?

Navigation -> Destination -> change state?? ->
or
Change state -> Navigation ->
or
Navigation -> Change State -> Destination ->

You get the idea. Tired of swearing at the Nav system out of frustration. In truth, Ford would be wise to suck it up and sub-contract the entire sync/navigation to a third party whose only function is to do this sort of thing. I mean if it can easily be done on your phone, why is it so difficult with Ford's system. Are other manufacture's systems this frustrating? I know the information is there and it's ME that needs the programming. I just want to know how to do it?

I just tried this and it worked great:

"Find an address in Springfield, Missouri" and she went right to the next step, like "Say the address"
(I'm a long ways from Missouri!)

On a long road trip, I like to just set the NAV to the next farthest city.

"Navigation: DESTINATION CITY CENTER"

I got to this screen just by hitting the voice button on the steering wheel.

I'll have to check in the morning. I remember when i ask to find an address it asks if it is in a different state to change it at that point.
