I have aa 2019 XLT with the towing package. The documentation states that the 7 blade connect uses a SAE J2863 connector. I am purchasing a small travel that appears to use the traditional 7 way blade connector and does not appear to be compatible with the J2863. Has anyone solved this issue or have any thoughts on making a compatible connection? Thanks you any help of advice!

Doesnt the Ranger use the "traditional" 7 pin? The 7 pin on mine is the same 7 pin that's been on every vehicle I've had.
What trailer are you getting? If it is different you could just buy a SAE J2863 end for the trailer and connect it to the trailer.

The 7 pin connector on the ranger is the same standard that camper trailers can hook up with no problems. Why have a connection that no one else uses?

Just replace the connector on the trailer.

The 7 pin connector on the Ranger uses the SAE J2863 specs and that wiring is definitely different for the wiring of either the 7-way Traditional RV or the 7-way Standard RV wiring. Plugging either one of those into the Ranger will not provide full functionally if it works at all.

Alright I was getting confused around the terminology like everyone else so I searched around until I found this which I think clears things up a little. If anyone else is curious I found this on etrailer at the link below.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't those only differ by wire color, not functional pinout?

Looks like you are correct, I overlooked that as I saw the wire colors change between diagrams. However the diagrams match the setup of the SAE J2863 that is on our trucks and are labeled on the trailer website as "traditional" and "standard". Do you have the actual name of the other style plug you are questioning because now we have all three of those terms matching what is on our Rangers.

All the flat blade, 7 wire connectors should be the same,
There is a round pin, 7 wire used on semi trucks.

Works totally fine on my Ranger and my camper, and the camper predates the ranger by a few years.

Plenty of other folks in this forum pulling various trailers with 7pin hookups and they don't have to do anything funky to make it work.

Count me in on this, mine works Just Fine. OP, was this a new trailer you bought or did the previous owner rewire the connector because their tow vehicle was wired wrong?

I have towed 2 different trailers with my Ranger, a 2007 Aliner, and a 2018 Winnebago. No problems with the wiring connection.

I'm fly. I'm pilot.
Yeah I'm with him ?

Two separate utility trailers and everything works down to the trailer brakes.
