I had to change out my LCA because the ball joint was bad while doing so my CV axle got over extended but i thought i got it straight and back together and then I reassembled it. When i test drove it there was a squeaking on rotation and upon inspection i could see more play in the inner joint than usual. I then tore it all apart again and pulled the CV and pushed it back in as straight as possible. It appeared to be rotating fine afterwards so i put it all back together. Again during my test drive the CV was squeaking on rotation. Is it just bad and i need to replace it or should i keep trying to fix it?

Do some more checking. I would suspect a brake dust cover rubbing on the brake rotors for that kind of noise. Been there before from bending the dust shield a few times in the past.

Its not the brake dust shield. I did notice the inner CV joint isnt rotating correctly at all. Ive tried reseating it several times but it continues to do it.
Here's a video of it.

So when it extended, the race separated from the bearing?

Basically anytime it over extends such as when installing a longer coilover without releasing the axle nut this could happen. They dont just fall off though. I think it came off from the force of trying to shove it back in.

Ok, that's what I thought I saw. Hard to tell in the photos with all the grease in there.

Having taken a bunch of CVs apart, I knew this could happen, but have been lucky in that it's not happened to me!

Just curious, it looks like you cut the boot cirvumferentially. Did you not want to cut the clamps and then just replace them?

I already ordered a new to me CV from a wrecked Ranger. Whenever I've repaired them in the past they never hold up. I may try to repair it and keep it as a spare.
