Hi Folks,

Here is a goofy demo of a 1983 Ford Ranger.... Back in the 70's they tried this with an F100 but the parachute did not open...wish I could find that outake as they had a stunt person crawl out of the trashed truck. Anyway here is the Ranger..... I had some involvement in this as they wanted to know if the Ranger landed roughly, would it still drive away. So we calculated a bit and said it would likely do okay, some bent suspension but should start and drive away. It actually worked and the Ranger was not really hurt at all.

Hi Phil, do you know where I can get a parachute to fit my 2019 Ranger? I want to drive out to the Grand Canyon and try this. ?

Edit: Also watching that commercial it shows how much things have changed over the years. There was no "Do not try this," or "Performed in a controlled environment. Do not attempt," type disclaimers you see these days.

Replaced the 2 piece lugnuts with new one piece ones and added McGard wheel locks.
I always had trouble with wheel locks...think I cracked every locking nut (not the key) once me, and the other times, the dealer. So I gave up on them.

That YouTube video he shared is even more funny if you click the gear icon and change the playback speed to 0.25 which makes it slow motion. It makes the narrator sound drunk and maybe what you would expect for someone launching a truck off a cliff with a parachute. ?

Man, I loved the twin I-beam suspension on those trucks. Back when I was racing dirt bikes in Baja in the 90's, I had a 95 F150 standard cab long bed with the 351W. It was a great truck for off road. In fact, it's still my favorite truck to date. If I could have that truck with a V6 Eco Boost or V8 Coyote, I would be set.

Finished the Meguiars Liquid Hybrid Ceramic wax today. Spoiler alert: it's not really that chartreuse color, it's white! But it smells good, for what it's worth.

Used a foam pad as recommended, goes on easy, almost too easy. Sort of thin, made me think what makes it so special.

Used microfiber cloth, comes off easy too. It is shiny, but I think I can see blemishes/micro-scratches. Haven't seen water bead on it yet, supposed to make drops almost stand up, we'll see.

Conclusion: not 100% sold on this ceramic. It doesn't feel as smooth as my previous Meguiars faves on the back-of-finger slippery test, tho the bottle will slide off the hood (wow?) I do like the Meguiars Yellow (if they still make it, mine is in the old tan plastic container), and the newer Gold Class Carnauba Plus Liquid.

I've been thru the gel's and the nano's and maybe this ceramic is just another fad. All chemicals. Don't know what C11-13 synthetic isoparafin, benzyl benzoate or bronopol are, but SiO2 is silica which is sand, and abrasive no matter how fine you grind it! (for some reason silica is not listed on the ingredients) Old fashioned tree-killing carnauba is good, you can keep your clay bar and petrochemical lab waxes! This may upset pro detailers and wax enthusiasts, but I'm just a guy with a truck, and a metallurgist, not a chemist!

I used the Meguiar's hybrid ceramic spray on and I do like the results. Did the wife's van and my bike also, so far it appears to shed dirt some and the water beading is as good as I have seen but I say that every time I use a new product. It was easy to use and man, I like easy. The spray is going to get into places my hands will not so that is why I went that route. I did buy a bottle and re did the hood just to see if there was any difference and at this point I can not tell if there is.

I’m thinking of doing a dyno before I install the SPD high flow catted downpipe and SPD exhaust with 5 star tune. I am currently running a canned SCT 93 octane tune with no other mods.
Did you happen to do a non-modded base line?
Unfortunately i did not I put on all bolts this past November. Then the turbo before Rona started. It was hard findings a reasonable dyno here on Oahu.

Installed the ram mount for my phone. Track plate is bolted to the tray. Took the tray out and drilled a couple holes. Such a solid mount and I don't have to worry about adhesives going bad.

I cannot take credit for this idea. Another member on here came up with the idea (i.e. WLFPIR8)

Dealer did them in with an impact wrench even tho he claimed using a torque bar. I only used a lug nut wrench and still cracked one. The newer McGuard look to be possibly a better design. Good Luck, and don't lose the key...?
