But with the tailgate down we are in trouble.
I'm 6'2" and have no problem getting on the tailgate when its down.
My 5'4" wife does but she just kinda leaps up to sit on it and then crawls in the shell.

I am 5'10" but the driveway goes a little down slope making me shorter . Maybe I should back in everyday . But when I back in not much room to unload the bed either . Can not win .

How the heck does that take 4 hours?
I had the same reaction. The step I installed on my Tacoma was only slightly less involved and took me about 30 minutes with me taking my time.

This might have been answered elsewhere - But anyone know how much weight the tailgate can support?

Doesn’t! 30 min max! Did mine myself without a lift. Just hand tools. 30min job. Faster with lift and power tools. But hand tools are fine.
Heh, good time to recall that when the service department complains that a job takes way longer than the book time (like the stupid TBC install procedure) they never mention when the book time is overly generous. :D

I have not tried this, but maybe it would work to climb in the bed with the tailgate up (utilizing the bumper) and then dropping the tailgate while in the bed. A tailgate damper would prevent it from slamming down.
I just tried it. It was very easy and I was able to gently lower the tailgate without one of those controversial tailgate thingies.

I think I remember reading it is rated at like 485lb according to owners manual
So really, probably about 550lb.

I'm waiting for an aftermarket manufacturer to come out with a rear bumper similar to the one on the Colorado.

The step built into the side is perfect.

That said, if you get the ZR2, you lose the cool bumper side steps.

GM felt they were too fragile for the off road version of the truck.

Per the Owners Manual: 485 lbs, unless you have a "load bed extension" then the max weight is 110 lb.

Fab Fours is the only company I know if that makes an aftermarket bumper for the Colorado that has the steps built in. That would be perfect for the Ranger. Regarding the lack of step for the ZR2, the reason it was removed was to improve departure angle.
