Question for owners whose trucks are equipped with the keyless start system.

When pressing the start/stop button once, with the key fob in it's recommended position on the center console and not depressing the brake pedal place the ignition system into the accessory position?

Does pressing the button twice place the system into on or run position?

The owner's manual does not explain this at all, just for those with conventional keyed ignition switches.

Hi Mokume,

Yes...pressing the button without the brake applied does enter accessory mode. Never had the fob in the center console..just in my pocket.

Never pushed the button twice though so cannot answer that.

If you're talking about the key in the cupholder thing, that's for emergency use if the battery dies in the remote.

Good to know, however my question was how to activate both accessory and run positions on vehicles with push-button start.

There is really only two positions for the trucks with push-button start, either off or all electrical circuits active.
From the 2020 manual:
The keyless starting system has three
modes:
Off: Turns the ignition off.
• Without applying the brake pedal,
press and release the button once
when the ignition is in the on mode, or
when your vehicle is running but is not
moving.
On: All electrical circuits are operational
and the warning lamps and indicators
illuminate.
• Without applying the brake pedal,
press and release the button once.
Start: Starts your vehicle. The engine may
not start when your vehicle starts.
• Press the brake pedal, and then press
the button for any length of time. An
indicator light on the button illuminates
when the ignition is on and when your
vehicle starts.

Thanks Radio,

It appears that the "on" position on keyless vehicles powers up everything, strange that there's no "accessory" position on them, as conventional keyed models do.

Lol...
"The engine may not start when your vehicle starts."
Can any members explain exactly what does this gem of information mean???

Ford may build great vehicles but their websites and owner's manuals leave a lot to be desired.

Nor shop manuals, it's obvious this page applies to global models as it shows rear drum brakes.
Either a hasty cut and paste or someone don't know how to edit.

I think if you push it twice it will turn back off. In order to start it, you have to press the brake and then push the button.

If you push it once it does turn everything on but goes out in 15 minutes. If you're sitting in your truck listening to the radio once it goes off all you have to do is push the on/off knob on the radio and it will turn back on without everything else coming on.

Here's some trivia for you fellow geezers like me concerning the accessory position.
Remember when drive-in theaters went hi-tech and had those clip on doo-dads for your cars antenna? These clips replaced those infamous speakers you'd hang from your window and sprouted out from the same poles.
You'd tune to a certain AM station and get glorious sound from the lone speaker in the dash.
Wonder how many people killed their batteries because on the ign. being in the on position and not acc....lol

I remember that all to well. You'd open your door and forget that huge speaker was hanging off the window and pray you didn't shatter the glass. lol

I don't remember having to clip anything to the antenna, the one we had went right to the AM radio station. Never has a dead battery though. Of course I didn't see to many movies as most of the time I was in the back seat with my g/f fogging up all the windows.:lipssealed:

True story here Dave:
Last Saturday I was attempting to do some Forscan mods and could not for the life of me figure out how to turn off the audio system using the touchscreen.
Along walks by my 22 year old nephew, he senses my frustration, reaches in and pushes the power knob just below.
He walked away with a huge smirk on his face, wiseass hi-tech younguns...lol
One of my Dad's favorite sayings was "if it had teeth, it'd bite you in the ass", so true Dad, so true...
