Lol, I'm sure you meant blue eyes, blond haired sailor, I am almost certain the Navy would not allow 2 hair tones in the seventies, not to mention the stares you'd get back then in Honolulu.When I was there I lived in the condominiums right on the border between Waianae and Nanakuli. Not a good place for a blue haired blond haired sailor. I had a Filipino wife and either was good or bad depending who you are around. Sure was nice living 100 yds to the water’s edge.
The sixties and seventies was a good time to grow up in Honolulu, I remember them fondly, but with any densely populated area, crime and poverty are to be expected. The total population on Oahu is creeping up to almost 1.2 million, of which almost 5K are homeless.
Despite all its flaws, it's home to me and still Paradise.
Edit: like you quip about Filipino women, I know exactly what you mean...
