not worth it
Exactly, just like a boat always cheaper to rent it.

I got the 6 year 60k when I bought mine. Was kicking myself at first. Now it seems like a good idea.
Im at 35000 on mine, hope to get rid of it by the 60000 expiration date.

After all the transmission threads of late mine went wonky the other day. Was towing my boat, 14 ft lund ssv, tiller, with 15hp merc so nothing extreme heavy. Pulled out into traffic and the trans just hung in 2nd gear. Tach hit the Rev limiter. Let off gas rpm dropped to about 4000 then slammed into 3rd gear.

Needless too say thanks to the info found here I checked Flood Ford and got myself extended to 100k for $1200. That's a third of what my local dealer wanted. I'll keep truck too 90k then trade on the next one. For the cost it's cheap insurance.

So condensed version transmission is a nut job and Flood Ford has great deals on ESP lol
There is a Flood Ford near me, though was there a specific contact you used like Zach for Granger?

Depends on what type of boat. A simple aluminum v bottom with tiller is quite economical to own. ;)

I bought a used 2011 Alumicraft 17' MV1756 from Cabella's for 10K back in 2013. It has a 60 horse Yamaha on it and it was the best thing I ever did. I had heard the old adage "the best 2 days of owning a boat are the day you get it and the day you sell it" and took it to heart. But honestly, an aluminum boat is pretty much trouble free. And the new 4 stroke outboards are as dependable as a car engine. Change the fluids once a year and that's about it. If you like fishing from shore, having a boat, ANY boat, makes fishing 100 times better.

Agred. Boat is sooo much better. Way more peaceful! I bought a used 20 lund ssv with a 4 stroke 15 hp merc. Virtually no upkeep like you said. Got whole outfit for way less than it's worth. Being 14' it's great on local lakes but still big enough to use on the ohio river.

I rented a pontoon boat for $300 for a day. When I brought it back I asked how much and the lady told me $65k!!!! I mean granted it was brand new but it doesn't even have a hull! It's two steel tanks and when I swam under you can see the floor is plain, unfinished, unpainted plywood!

Not to mention trailer and or docking fees.

We used to fish south Biscayne Bay out to the Gulf Stream, 1/2 way down the Florida Keys, and then south west to Cape Sable from Flamingo in the Everglades. I have lots of memories from all kinds of boats and motors. But the most reliable was a early 70's 55 HP Johnson. It simply ran without ever having a problem. Mercuries (the black ones) were a different story, several left us in the lurch. and 20 miles is a long way to row or use a kicker motor!

The stories I could tell! Here is one of them.

My dad started out with a 14' wood skiff that he picked up for free as the nose had rotted away. He cut it off with a hand saw, and used a 1.5" thick piece of mahogany to make a butt nose on the front of the boat, like a jon boat! He didn't even paint it! The thing looked a lot like a 12' jon boat except the nose was narrower. We installed a 7.5HP Sears motor on it and would take it 9 miles across Biscayne Bay to the Caesar's Creek area to fish the shallows. It wouldn't plane the boat and the water could get rough in the middle of the bay, but we did it countless times. I've included a map of southern Biscayne Bay. The mainland on the left, and Caesar's Creek on the right. The reefs are out where the ship wrecks are, and the Gulf Stream and shipping lanes just a little past the ship wrecks, not a 1/4 mile to deep blue ocean.

That big white structure to the south of Bayfront park is Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant. The green area to the south are cooling canals that attempt to keep the water temp in the bay from rising. It hasn't work so well. In fact, the crocodile population has exploded since the power plant went live. The area is at the northern fringe of crocodile habitat, but the warm water has expanded their range. And the crocs like salt water better than fresh water. The alligators prefer the fresh water. The crocs are much more aggressive too.

Lots of fond memories... But enough rambling about the adventures and pleasantries of boating in the past. Back to your regularly scheduled broadcasting!

While I've thought of doing this before, this thread finally made me get off my ass. (Impressive!)

When I bought my Tremor I had to endure the half hour with the finance guy trying to sell me everything but a plate of wings. As I really liked the dealership I was much nicer than I'd normally be in these situations with my "No." Nicer maybe, but every answer was still "No." I was very up front as soon as I sat down... but the guy still had to do his job and run through it all.

Anyway, the dealer includes a powertrain warranty with every new vehicle. (I am sure the warranty is just lovely.:puke:) My eyes glassed over as he reviewed it. All I wanted was to get the damn keys and drive my truck.

So today I get off my ass and pull out the truck file. Now, I still think the warranty is a piece of ? . I am VERY untrusting of any and all warranties. And this one is through Allstate. Not Ford. Which only further gives me pause. Be that as it may, I have an extended powertrain warranty good for 10 years or 150K miles.

Powertrain only. I just read it. Engine. Transmission. Transfer case. Axles. Period. Piece of ? it may be (or to be fair, maybe not) but at least I have a place to argue should I have any issues after 5 years or 60K.

Fine print? I have to maintain the vehicle per the manufacturers recommendations. Well let's see... Ford says to not touch the trans for 150K miles. I think I can do that! :like:

The Warden will 100% vouch that I am fully qualified to do nothing. So fingers crossed with the trans.
