For SAFETY reasons - Trash It

Think about hitting a bump, pothole etc. and what pressure is exerted on that sidewall
The sidewall has been compromised - why risk a blowout and possible crash?

SAFETY - Trumps everything

Had that happen years ago, and would not wish it upon anyone. One of the scariest days of my life, and will never forget it. For a split second thought it was a gun shot then it hit me what had happened. I think growing up, and learning to drive on snow and ice saved me that day. Total loss of control with a life flashing before your eyes moment.
Its kind of like when you are driving down the freeway and the rear of your car drops and then you watch your rear tire pass you on the freeway. That was the day I became ultra paranoid about making sure all my lug nuts were always TIGHT..... The sad part is that the place responsible for not tightening them was a tire shop!

And the other thing - tires are the only thing between you and the road - I NEVER, EVER scrimp on them. That tire should be scrapped - keeping it as the spare is probably OK since that would only be for emergencies, but I'd never drive on it any more than I had to.

I managed a big chunk in my sidewall from our trip to Baja. I have a fullsize spare under the truck so I think Ill just switch the tires and keep the chunked one as my spare.

That sucks… Had a similar situation a couple years ago. I literally had new tires on the truck for 3 days and a rock punctured the sidewall on a camping trip.
Just trash it and get a new one. It’s not worth keeping even as a spare. The last thing you want is for that tire to blow out and cause issues for you later or cause you to wreck.

Mov to spare a good choice. Except !!! I'd have tire removed, and buffed in area of damaged, On THE INSIDE. AN THEN A boot added from the interior. We repaired many tires like that inour family tire business I. The 50-90's. All of those were recounted on a car! I suppose a tire boot is still available. A patch can still be added for interior strength to make a reliable spare. But, good luck!!

Honestly, I was thinking of just using black shoe goo to glue the flap down
If it's not leaking and you can't see any "whiskers" under the flap glue it down with "Black Death" gasket/weatherstripping adhesive and use it as the spare.

My daughter hit a curb and it caused a similar gouge. She continued to use it until a tennis ball sized bulge appeared. No not safe!
