The colorado has had bent frames, the wrangler, the gladiator, f150 so on and so on. They all bend if you do shit they wern't built for.
Any frame can be bent from abuse even Toyotas, unlike the 700K Tacomas that had theirs turn to dust. Yea...do (sp) to build quality.

Tacos dominate do to build quality. Toyota always has.
A long time Toyota owner and advocate - 40+ yrs tells me 4Runners are built in Japan and have superior build quality, I think that is reflective in some of the initial quality surveys, plus 4Runners are generally in the the top ten longest lasting vehicles - Toyota has several in the list - Sequoia, Highlander, and maybe Tundra.
Unsure to what degree the above applies to the Tacoma. many feel toyota isn't quite as dominate as in the past.

Tacoma (nor any other Japanese pickup) isn't built in Japan due to the Chicken Tax

SUVs/Passenger cars aren't affected and thus can be built there.

The Subaru BRAT skirted the tax by putting a pair of death buckets bucket seats in the back and calling it a passenger car.

I am picking up my new Ranger next week. I searched for over 8 months to buy the right truck.

Tacoma negatives.

Poor / sluggish passing power (Number one complaint in Tacoma discussion groups).
Poor headlamps (no LED's) except for the top build model.
Poor cornering (again, discussion group complaints).
Way over-priced for the top model to get the needed options.

The Ranger had a LOT more build options so I could customize it to my liking.

Tell that to all the owners who had to have their frames replaced......
To be fair, the Tacoma frame issues were inadequate rustproofing on 1st and 2nd gen model frames through 2010, which made the frames vulnerable to rust perforation in snow belt states.

Cuz I'm bias...
If I want a car I buy a Jap car.
If I want a truck, I buy American.
It's just the way I see things.

It was my understanding that it was a mix of poor metal and having the cats too close to the frame/not shielded enough. The cats would more or less overheat the frame and the constant heat cycling every time it got driven over time more or less weakened that area, leading to it rotting through first.

My mother had an 05 taco for a few years, in the rust belt. The previous owner must have washed the truck religiously, because the only rusty part of the frame were right by the converter/s.
