my older brother is getting into word working. im just about useless except for basics i learned in shop class in junior high and then sanding and varnishing and oiling teak and mahogany on boats lol. niece and nephew "brother" just won fastest and best of in the pine wood derby! The kids did help but i think the dads are the ones that do all the crafting. the pine wood derby is still a big deal in scout circles

Hi Folks,

I just got an assignment from the Mardas Gallery owner, Diana Madaras. She had some 20 lazy susans from Costa Rico that had shipping damage. I do not sell my work in her Gallery anymore, but she keeps me in reserve for weird stuff...Like dispay frames for the Tucson Airport, her studio etc. So I have about 25 large lazy susans in the shop for repair.... Quite a job for me as no two are damaged as the same...Throw in two cutting boards... I am about half way through them but my shop is flooded with lazy susans.... These are from Costa Rico...Here are examples...

Hi Phil
I noticed a picture of your pizza cutter in a different post. You do awesome work. You should post more pictures of your other projects.

My dining table and chairs... Table weighs 300lbs. Mesquite stump was a challenge, clocks on the wall have various pieces of them that I had to make to restore the cases....Chair backs have saquaro ribs as does the Cornice over the doors that I made too...

Live Edge coffee table we use every evening that we are not outside...

Bottle opener and wine stopper....

Cheese knife, Cheese fork and cutting board....

Cutting Board.jpg

Just finished yesterday. Tried to bookmatch the Mesquite after filling the cracks with a polyester resin and potent black dye 9/4 mesquite resawn. 20" x 13½" x 7/8"

Mesquite is a super hard wood on the order of Iron Wood... Carbide tooling is recommended...

Best,
Phil

It goes on beyond this, but enough for now...

When your wood pile is low and all you have left are the rejects you tossed aside because they have big old curves in them. Normally I strap pull boards to close gaps but I really didn't have a way to do this so I actually found something useful to do with the factory jack stand from the ranger. ?

Making a coffee table for my stepson's college graduation in May. This is a solid piece of Iroko wood, although it isn't related to Teak, it's often mislabeled as African Teak. I bought a Lichtenberg machine to burn the design in it last night then today I used my drill and a couple different nylon brush wheels to clean out the char and then sand it and round over the edges with my router. Tomorrow or maybe tonight I will mix up epoxy with some copper tint and fill the voids. I found a 2 part wax finish I will coat it all with. Should arrive soon. The company I bought it from uses it on both the sanded wood and sanded epoxy, it leaves a satin/ matte sheen. I am not a huge fan of high gloss epoxy but I will try that eventually. Luckily my pacemaker didn't give me any fits while I used the machine, maybe there's still hope for getting a mig welder after all.

Getting vinyl to adhere to construction grade wood is... uh interesting.

I gave it a coat of paint to sort of help be a pore filler to assist adhesion, but definitely a lot more work than using vinyl on metal to get it to properly stick. I'm sure there are products designed to make this work more easily, but I just used what I had on hand.
