I'm sure this decision depends a lot on the intended use-case, so here's my situation: Stock 18" rims, keeping the OEM tire size. First-time truck owner. Mostly in-town miles as a daily driver, with occasional longer highway trips pulling a travel trailer. Occasional fire-road / gravel / dirt road to get to a trailhead but no serious off-roading.

I've been reading a lot of discussions to help me choose what I want to replace the stock Dynapros with, but haven't seen many people mention if they just replace 4 or all 5 tires. I'm leaning towards just getting the 4, but want to make sure I'm not missing something first.

If you never used the spare, I would wait until the tire was 10-11 years old before replacing it. If it has cracks on the side wall then replace it.

If you are sticking with the OEM tire size I would leave it alone for the first 7 years of the vehicle life. Generally speaking a tire should not exceed 7 years of life even if you do have plenty of tread. Once you pass the 7 years you want to replace the tire.

If you were going to a different size tire and not sticking with the OEM size and probably getting bigger I would assume then you would probably want to go ahead and change your spare so you have a matching size just in case

If you have 18’’ wheels on your ranger then you may have a 17’’ spair..
so disappointed when I seen this. Now I need to find a steel 18’’ steel wheel or buy a couple stock aluminum wheels

Also, since you have 18" tires now, your spare is probably 17". At least it is on mine.

I went up to 265-70's on my ranger an left the spare the stock size. From what I was reading as long as you didn't put it in 4wd you could get it home or to a tire center like that.

The spares do have a 1" smaller diameter wheel but a taller sidewall to even it out.

I was thinking I would replace the spare every other tire replacement or 7-10 years. If you tow heavy loads or off road I would keep the spare the same diameter an change it around the 7 year mark.

Appreciate the replies! Glad to hear I haven't overlooked something glaringly obvious. The reminder about the 17" spare is good, that sounds familiar from when I dropped it to install the rear shocks.

Yea us with 18‘’ wheels have to figure out what to do with it and spend $ to get an 18’’ wheel so we don’t need worry about when we get a flat. Will the 70 series tire fit in the spair tire location?

Well if the spare is the same size as the other four, I would pick the best of the four tires of your second set to replace the original, which would be around ten years old at that point. From there on, just replace the spare with the best tire with every new set so that the spare won't be older than 5 years hopefully. If the spare is a different size, check your used tire shops for a gently used one to put on the spare for about $100 on the high end (normal tires not off road mud tires). Don't forget to check the air pressure in your spare so you can actually use it if needed.
