Well I'm sure others may have looked at me a bit different before, but I learned a bit with LT Tires vs P Tires. To specify it's with the Required Tire Pressure when changing to an LT Tire from a P Tire.
Now I know what most are going to say. "Do the chalk test!". Well as much of a good test that is, it won't be the easiest thing to do. Instead I recommend a good tire pressure calculator of sorts. The one I found is this from Tire Reviews https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tools/tyre-pressure-calculator and it works well.
Now some may be aware that the Ranger has 2 different Tire Pressure Recommendations from the Factory. 30 PSI for those with P Tires and 38 PSI for those with LT Tires. Using the tool above and starting with the P Tires at 30 PSI, it recommended going to 39 PSI on LT Tires. When you think about it, that's not bad at all especially with what Ford recommends vs the calculator.
After all that I decided to see what would happen with my trucks information(2012 Nissan Frontier). From the Factory it calls for 35 PSI with P265/75-16. I currently have LT265/75-16. Well the calculator wanted me to have around 50 PSI. For kicks I decided to go to that and it made a difference. It only in comfort, but also in handling and MPG.
All in all it thought me that LT Tires are simply a bit more flexible on the load range and will allow for adjustments throughout the available pressure range. Certainly a lesson learned and hopefully a lesson others can learn sooner than later.
