What Spring Do I Have ?????

I'm trying to figure out what rear spring is on my 2 wheel drive Lariat. I've read all the posts concerning the mono spring vs multi leaf.....but my Lariat has one long main spring with a shorter spring attached....almost what I would call a helper spring.
Truck was purchased new by me so no mods to the spring pack. I have been debating on upgrading to a better OME rear spring for a better ride while solo but one that can support my towing and heavy tongue weight.
So, is it a mono ???

I am 99% sure it is a mono.....just the shorter attached leaf kind of threw me.

That shorter one is just an overload spring, you've got the monoleaf like the rest of us.

I'm going to recommend the R O W springs if you can still get a set. They sure made mine nice on and off road.

OE spring gives a good enough ride with the Roadmaster Active Suspension I added when towing/loaded down, but solo it's like everyone else.....fairly stiff. Read a lot here about the different multi leaf setups and am just kicking around the idea of a swap.
Would have to farm the labor out....just too old to be hefting around parts like those.

The fact that you have a 2WD, I would steer away from Old Man EMU unless you want to lift the truck. The basic Leafs will lift the truck about 1.6 in the rear. On a 4WD the basic Coils with struts lift the front by 2.4 inches. I suspect closer to 3 with a 2WD.

My thoughts if you want to change the Leafs but are not interested in lifting if you can avoid is to go to Deaver Leafs. It should yield results that you are looking for

Technically speaking Old Man EMU isn't wrong about not making stuff for 2WD vehicles. Most 4WD Specialty places don't. I do understand that Dobinsons does make some select parts for 2WD, but the Ranger does not apply.

Now I can say with my own experience is a multi leaf type spring vs a parabolic spring, the multi leafs tend to be smoother. That is also assuming you already have the right set of shocks and struts too. On my Frontier I have Dobinsons at this time. I'm running the Twin Tubes that are comparable to the Old Man EMU Nitrocharger Shocks and Struts. The Dobinsons are definitely more comfortable, but I feel going to the IMS Monotubes will be a big improvement. As for the leafs I'm currently running the super heavy leafs. With the load it is a little stiff, but when towing it smooths out more, but again I have the super heavy leafs and the twin tubes.

The question that comes to my mind is, Is there a difference between two and four wheel drive springs? These days truck makers economize as much as possible and with the ride height appearing to be the same 2/4wd I wouldn't be surprised if the springs are the same.

For the front absolutely they are different. For the rear? Sometimes but not always. I believe the Ranger uses the same exact leaf spring for both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive
