@Kafn8td - I was so confused by the design of that thing I had to look up what was the plan with it. Even knowing it doesn't fit. It goes under the parking brake handle!? How funky is that. After looking at the phone holster on the Wildtrak model got me thinking a little phone holster that could hug the passenger seat would be perfect for me. Giving me some ideas to feed my 3D printing buddies who are always saying "give me a project!"

Let me know what you come up with. I have a work and personal phone so I'm looking for something to hold the 2nd phone out of the way. This would work well, it's just not quite th correct shape for our Rangers.

Just wondering how this is holding up and If it holds the charge. I am looking at this one or the s version but that doesn't have a preheater for cold environments. I like the usb fast charge feature. Thanks.
I take it out every 3 months to charge it and it always shows fully charged. It has 4 lights - 25, 50, 75, and 100% - and all are always lit before charging but I still plug it in overnight.

I've only used it a few times but it was really used hard. Cranking the old FJ40 (months ago and then 2 weekends back) until the cables were very hot to the touch. I have a lot of faith in it that in can crank quite a bit (so much so that I don't carry jumper cables, but might add those once I find a bed utility chest that I like). Each time I've used it, I cranked on the boost setting at least ten times and it only goes down to 75%. And cranking on that FJ at below 50 degrees takes a lot of cold cranking amps (I fitted a Chevy starter in it 30 years ago).

All that said, I still like that unit but I'd encourage you to look at Farm Projects YouTube video testing several out. I think there are bigger capacity ones out there. I'm also intrigued by the jump starter that is actually a large capacitor that charges itself from your own battery. That way you never worry about it being dead.

It took me a bit to understand how that kind works because if your battery's too dead to start your truck, how can this capacitor type starter work?

But it does and simply needs a little juice and a few minutes to get what it needs.

Great call you make on preheater built in (like Ego and Toro batteries). If I was using this to start a dead truck in winter, I think I'd stick it in my coat for 15 minutes.

Let us know what you get! =)

Hi Folks,

Continuing the saga of the replacement of the missing (hidden and not found) Nautilus fob, I decided to see what it would cost to laser cut the blank key at our local lock smiths and at the Ford/Hyundai dealer. Very pricey and only one of the three locksmiths could cut the key. $55 per side or for double bit keys like the Ranger, $110. Ford dealer would not quote...just drop off the key and they ship it up to Tucson for cutting... So I had an not fitting the fob new cut key. So, what to do...The Nautilus has a class 4 trailer hitch, so for roughly $70 I could get a Hitch Safe. So today I got the new Hitch Safe in the mail and installed without any tools. Super simple. Then set the 4 digit code to one that we will remember and dropped the ill fitting key into the safe and now I have access to an emergency key if needed without having to carry around a spare key...

Hitch Safe is very well done in my opinion. I think Mod Redland Ranger has one also. Not sure!

Best,
Phil

Wow.......your local locksmiths are really raking in the bucks! When I got my Ranger back in Sep't 2022, I ordered two new key fobs with blank keys off of ebay. I was able to program the fobs myself but I did need to pay a visit to the locksmith. They charged me $40 bucks to laser cut the two blanks (both sides).

I went back in a few weeks ago with a new fob for the Jeep that I had just purchased. Again $40 bucks to laser cut the double sided blank key and $75 to program the fob.

If you ever make it out to western South Dakota, I'll hook you up with the local locksmith.

The key I had cut here in Kingman was less than fifty.

Had an extra chip key (not a valet) made from a Ford blank. A key-maker at a dealership (he contracts with different dealerships and goes to their sites on certain days to make keys for their customers) made if for $50. I insert the key into a flash drive case and attach it to a belt loop so I will always have a backup key on my person in case I lose the original Fob key.

Thanks. Still trying to decide if I want to spend the extra $50 bucks for the Gt4000 with fast charger and pre heater or your model gp4000 with just the preheater. I really like the external relay on yours that can be replaced when it blows. The gt4000 and gt4000s both have internal relays that make the unit useless when they eventually blow. I see your model is $102 om Amazon now and may just get that. Don't really need it with Ford being just a call away but would be nice to have to save someone with a bad battery some grief.

David,
I can see your OB now..."man joyfully passed away in his beloved truck 'SOUPIE ' just after finishing a dump run at a local landfill." Family and friends have commented..."he went doing what he loved to do"! :handsinair:
