Finally got the estimate this morning. He said it was $5400 and will take 2 weeks. That's about what I was thinking.

Ask their insurance to give you a check for diminished value. Even though it will fixed back to 100%, you'll always have that accident on the history.

yeah good luck on Dim-Value. We had a major accident when another driver whacked our then 1.5 year old Escape pulling in front of my wife from a side street to a main road [55 mph zone]. Other driver got ticket, we were 100% fault-less, $13k in damage to our ride, air bag deployment. Fought for Dim-Value for over a year. Had verifiable documentation that the vehicle though fixed w/FoMoCo OEM parts and put back together to an outstanding level was NOW worth $4500 LESS. Her carrier State Farm basically told me to F-off so many different ways I thought I was in a dirty movie. Total amount recovered $0.
At this point we have no choice other than run it 'til the wheels fall off, I'm NOT taking a hit and since the wife puts on a hoop of miles with it commuting to work it does not make sense to trade it even if it was accident free at this point.
Bottom Line: If possible ALWAYS try your best to avoid accidents, its a loose/loose. In her case it was unavoidable, though she cried anyways b/c it was her 1st new-in-the-wrapper car. We always bought her 1-2 year old CPO level vehicles, which is what she will go back to moving forward..Financing at 0%/60 months was just too attractive at the time.

State Farm is the insurance of the person who hit me. It can't hurt to ask. The worst thing they can do is say no.

You may end up having to sue their insurance to get diminished value.

There is a reasonable amount of information out there on Indiana DV Claims. Someone who works in the industry basically said that it is very difficult to prove and the most he has seen a settlement for is $500. I will bring it up with them next time I talk with them and see where it goes. I am not sure it is worth the time and energy that it may require. Thanks everyone for your insight.

It is definitely worth the time and effort. Since your Ranger is so new it is easy to determine the diminished value. Just went through this on my wife’s new Acura RDX with less than 2K miles Other party insurance didn’t want total it. Wanted to repair it with $24k damage. Guy at body shop gave me a DV specialist to talk to. Specialist told me should expect no less than 40% of the repair cost in DV ( my case almost $10k). After presenting this to the insurance they totaled the car and wife is driving a new RDX. Do not let the insurance company determine the value.

Good luck.

I'll try to remember to ask my boss about this. Several years ago she bought a brand new Lexus, and within a couple weeks got run into in Indiana. Insurance told her that repairs would make it as good as new, so she wasn't owed anything more than repair costs. Her lawyer told her that when she got it back from the shop, she needed to take it straight to one of those big "we'll buy your car even if you don't buy ours" places (I think maybe Carmax?), and tell them her financial situation had changed and she was considering selling the car, but not to tell them about the accident. Of course their mechanics figured out really quick about the accident, and made an offer that reflected it. I know the lawyer presented the info to the insurance, but I don't recall ever hearing how it was resolved.

Pretty much how we handled our DV claim on the Escape...connected all the dots, over documented everything, etc. etc. It basically depends on who you are dealing with at the corporate level at the insurance company. Some folks to really well, others ok and in my case big fat nothing. Side note at the time her car was 1.5 yrs old and my insurance company [Met] who started the claim until hers [state farm] picked it up as 100% their drivers fault was hassling me about OEM parts. They wanted me to ok aftermarket sheet metal, they were jerks it took me two weeks of daily piss'n contest up the chain of command at Met until I got a regional manager who basically said, "whats it going to take for you to go away?" I told him OEM parts. He ok'd it. Oddly a few days later the other drivers insurance got me and I explained my issues with Met and they got me into a better rental at n/c and said they are absolutely fine with OEM parts and my choice of shop on the car...that part I was impressed with. The DV part not so much. Even threatened to sue the driver in small claims for the DV value, ran the numbers and other than paying to have the letter sent to make it look serious we still got blown off.
Like i said, I've known a few others who got royally screw'd on DV and others who did ok [with loads of hassles] and a few others that said I'm not wasting my time.

Sorry to hear that.

The Tacoma had to yield to @Formula Indy who was already in the roundabout. It's 100% her fault.
First they did away with cloverleafs, then they start building roundabouts all over the place. Strange logic... and dangerous.

Roundabouts are actually very efficient except most of the general public doesn't know how to use them. They are putting in more and more in my neck of the woods in Nevada but they didn't make any additional effort to educate people on proper use.
