The chip shortage and production cuts are projected to last though the end of June, so I expect it to continue until then.

I checked inventory at the dealer I bought my truck from.

They have 3 4x4 Rangers in stock and the biggest "dealer discount" is $1200.

They normally have 30-40 4x4 Rangers.

As to the Carvana madness, I actually drove my truck this week and put an additional 100 miles on it. I went to Carvana to update my details expecting a slight drop in value (my truck is getting close to the magic 10.000 mile mark and if I decide to sell it I'd like to keep it under that). My offer went up.
Mine did the same, as I was waiting to figure out how to manage this transaction, price went up every time I updated the miles. In the end, I agreed to finance with the dealer and make 3 payments on the loan. They get a financing kick back and then I will pay off with the sale of my 2019. So net at the end I will pay about $1,000 and three months of interest at 2.9% of the balance due for 3 months.

I wouldn't even consider buying from Carvana, Vroom, or whatever. But, there appears to be a new business model emerging for the whole 'online' experience. People just don't want the hassle of a regular dealer experience. Whatever.

I do think we're at the beginning of the end for regular dealer sales, just not sure where that will end up.
Carvana, Vroom, and WTFE else has these business models for car sales cater to the same people that can't open a can with a can opener. This is why the tuna pouch was invented.

Glad you scored and also that you are taking a "pre-mod" stance. Best part is, you already have the #1 most needed mod on hand ;)

i feel bad for the poor suckers who are going broke buying carvana stock vehicles.
how desperate can you be.

the breaking point is on the horizon i am sure.
I may be wrong, but I think they cater more to the crowd that has less than stellar credit. Reminds me of the payday loan people (essentially loan sharks). Makes sense why they can overpay for all these trade ins. They're screwing the next guy to make it up.

Ford Cuts Production Outlook In Half Due To Chip Shortage

That's what the auto industry insiders are saying.

However, I heard a story on talk radio the other morning stating it MAY be much worse. Apparently when polled over 40% of microchip industry insiders expect this to last until the end of the year and over 30% expect it to last "well into 2022."

Apparently GM has already taken to building trucks without chipsets, and storing them until they can be completed.

If I was wanting a new vehicle within the next year I'd do it NOW.

They allow 1,000 miles after your offer, so that's already figured in.

Thanks!

I did not see that 1,000 mile stipulation.

Some folks are old school, or so it seems. Naming your vehicle, is a late 50s thing (thanks to HotRod magazine). And painting that name on the rear, was always considered "square". To me? It is just a truck!

Well I guess I'm square, but it gives my vehicles personality, just like I have always named my boats. I don't put the name on the truck, but I do have it in my Drivo App that tracks all my mileage and expenses.
