Waze acting up recently when trying to view alternative routes? Did I turn off too much?

Morning everyone,

Fairly recently I went into the settings on my truck and turned off everything I could find that helped big brother Ford track me. Initially everything was fine. But the past few weeks Waze hiccups if I use the button to view alternate routes. It'll let me chose one, but then the map disappears. If I unplug my phone from the truck, plug it right back in everything is fine. Waze is perfectly fine if I don't try to view other routes. Waze is fine just on my phone. Any guesses? Is it related to me trying to stay off the radar? Does my truck need an update so maybe I should turn the crap back on for a while?

Don't ask me what I turned off. I went through everything I could find and if it seemed big brother-ish I turned it off. Ford App no longer works. Not that I did a lot with it. But for some reason I did like being able to check the odometer, gas level, etc. when I looked at it. No biggie really though.

Any thoughts/ideas? Is it related?

I think (yes that's dangerous) if you had turned something off you weren't supposed to it wouldn't work once you unplugged it then plugged it back again. Can you check it with another map (Apple Maps or Google Maps) and see if it does the same with that? Then you might be able to tell if it's the truck or if Waze has a glitch in it.

I'm a 99.9% Waze guy. I'm so used to the ease of labeling construction, cops, traffic, etc. But recently I used Google maps for one trip and it was fine. In the grand scheme of things, this isn't a big deal. But it is irritating! 🤬

I should probably use google maps on my commute a couple of times next week just to check it out.

Google owns Waze, making both better. Google now shows alerts generated on Waze. I mostly use Sync 3 navigation since Google gave me an asinine route on a 300 mile drive home. I really only needed it for the first 50 miles.

I think it might be a recent update to Waze. I have been having disappearing maps in three vehicles the last week or so: my Ranger and a Colorado and Encore we use at work. Waze will still track properly and give me directions correctly, but the screen is blank. Sometimes it will show the map if I change to a different screen, but I can’t remember if that was full-screen map or split.

I tried Google Maps after their last big update and found Waze to be better unless you really want the 3D buildings

interesting thread, I use google maps and have been experciencing map showing the truck way off location and voice commands being totally wrong but screen directions are correct. I uninstalled and reinstalled but still have the same issue on iphone. Picking the avatar is kinda neat though. I may try Apple maps...

Give it a shot. I only use Apple Maps and have used it often these last 4 days with no issues. I've tried Google maps before but for some reason I just didn't like it and the same with Waze. Now I am a creature of habit (I hate change!) and have been using Apple Maps for many years so it's my go to. I'm just one of those that if something's not broke, don't fit it.

Check your Google settings, you may have avoid highways or tollways enabled

Disabling stuff in your Ranger might help if you don't have a phone paired, but remember that your phone is sending real time location data to cell towers and who knows where from there. It's easy for anyone who has a legit or ilegit reason for that matter, to track your device's location, whether through an app like FindMy or if the accelerometer in the device detects a rapid deceleration, it will place a call to an emergency contact or 911.

If you are an Apple-isti, appointments that you put on iCalandar with the addresses, the directions automatically display on your center display on the date & time you leave, once you've activated Car Play. In most cases, it will display alternate route choices, and will choose the fastest route if no choice is made.

I do like Google Maps' female voice the best, though.
