Hi all, XL (STX) FX4 supercab owner here. This weekend I became the proud owner of an iPhone XS (congratulate me later). I wasn't expecting much with the SYNC (original flavor) of my model, but I was bummed to find that the phone draws too much current from the USB port down near the tray, and the tuner gives me a warning until I unplug it. This means that whatever benefits of plugging right into the tuner/radio there might be are unobtainable to me. It seemed to keep a charge well enough plugged into the USB jack of a little cigarette lighter inverter I have, and connects via Bluetooth just fine.

Have any of you encountered this and if so, how have you dealt with it?

Thanks!

Yea I had the same problem with an iPhone SE. I didn't much care as I have a 32G flash drive with a bunch of music on it that I had in my Canyon that I just moved over to the Ranger. My iPhone is connected via bluetooth for calls so I didn't much care if I can't plug it in to play music. I can stream music via bluetooth if I want but I'd rather just use the flash drive. It is surprising that it can't provide enough power for the iPhone though as they seem to indicate that using it plugged in is better.

I'm solving the charging issue by installing USB sockets in place of the 12V:

I just ordered the 4.2A dual with volt meter today so I should get it later in the week. Will move the 1A/2A to the right side when I install the new one. The 2A charges an iPhone 7 while navigating.
