The most annoying part is that Ford will not update the older cars, like my RS, with the BCM update that gives the option in the car to disable the intelligent access to open the door. When my RS was in the shop recently the newer loaner, I think it was an Escape, had an option in the information center settings to disable intelligent access.

I suggested that to them back in 2016 shortly after getting my car and realizing the security risk. I actually said I would like a third mode where if I use the lock button on the key fob to lock the car and press it twice to disable intelligent access, require that the unlock button is pressed on the key fob. That way if I'm making a fast stop where the car is always in view I can lock it keyless and open it keyless for convenience, but if I'm at a theater or something I can press the lock button on the fob twice and make the intelligent access hack not work to open the door.

Get a locking RF blocking key box if you are worried around the house, and/or keep the car in the garage.

Thirteen minutes just to say, "your keyless entry fob is always transmitting and theives can record and duplicate the frequency to steal your car. If you wrap your fob in foil or a Faraday pouch they can't do it anymore."

I know there's showmanship and all, but that should've been a 2 minute video.

around Toronto, many of the tow truck companies have illicit ownership.
until recently, the cops turned a blind eye to it.

It wasn't suspicious to see a car on a tow truck, and they could easily transport a stolen vehicle in broad daylight without any suspicion of it being stolen

A guy I used to work with talked about having his Dodge truck stolen to get out of the high payments he was making. We laughed it off as fantasy talk.

then two weeks later, while him and his wife were at a movie...*poof, truck mysteriously goes missing and he has the key in his pocket.

how convenient.

flash fwd a few months and there's a big chop shop bust in the local area, including the arrest of a CAA tow truck driver.

interestingly enough, this tow truck driver was a friend of said co-worker

hmmm...again, quite convenient.

Its very organised there. the lure of money and high rewards will suck in many low hanging fruit that will take the fall while the organization just keeps on going.

While the faraday pouch may help prevent theft, it also prevents the benefits of the push button start.

The whole point was to be able to unlock and start your vehicle without digging for your keys.

Now you have to dig out your fobs to remove them from the faraday pouch, so that you can get the benefit of the keyless fob.

Stealing the vehicles is just a diversionary tacit , which has been profitable. the reality is the clothing industry was in a desperate need for sales, made use of the worlds lust for technology, created the need, and will soon be launching their complete lines of Faraday clothing and accessories. Ford will soon offer an optional Bill Blass Designer Series Faraday equipped interior with matching tie and handkerchief......

While the subject is still fresh, I will make a contribution. My Lariat is the first vehicle to have keyless ignition - push button start. Read were the fobs are incredibly easy to spoof by the right people.

Some faraday containers are less equal than others. The ones that work well tend to be pricey, like my $40 Vonetti boxes. Some of the cheaper ones are known to 'leak signal'.

I have some cheap ones of Amazon. Have tested them and they seem to work. Can’t open or start truck with key fob in the pouch. That said I only store key fob in the pouch when I am home. When out and about the key is in my pocket.
