I do a lot of highway and I'm very interested to try this mod
This is an old thread and there are others so it helps to be informed. Some members have bought one then took them off - why I don't know but their loss can be your gain if you keep an eye out - you might pick up one cheap.

Other mods to the stance, tuning and engine will also affect results but mostly driving habits. I suspect those who claim no improvement may have altered other aspects of their truck to minimize gain and others are relying on an inaccurate mileage computer more than carefully hand calculating. Seasonal gas formulas affect mileage and a lot of folks put one on when winter gas blends were switched and mileage suffers then regardless.

Some are getting way better mileage than I ever have altogether but then I'm normally not driving with MPGs in mind.

Most of the information in this thread is anecdotal although many have shared their data. My improvements have remained consistently better than pre-Big Mouth even though I've switched fuel sources and changed where I operate. I took a slight hit when I raised the front to get more level but have still gotten more efficiency.

I bought one when they first came out. They offered them at a big discount to get them out there. I tried tracking my mileage an testing it an if there was any improvement it was half a mpg on the highway. I knew I was going to tune my truck an wanted to see if it helped feed air to the airbox.

I never noticed any effect one way or the other with mine but recently had a friend back his boat into my grille and smash up the grill and the big mouth (and my intercooler) so when I fixed/replaced everything I didn’t bother to replace the big mouth.

After a little more than three years and 30,000 miles I had a look at mine while installing the CVF intercooler. The bigger IC does not interfere with the Big Mouth so there's a plus.

I didn't grab pictures but there is some cosmetic deterioration of the scoop that look like surface fractures. I'm thinking one of two things, remove the opening and paint it with body matching paint or just spend the $30-40 and order a replacement.

I've put at least 90 tankfulls of gas through in that time and if I go by my original rough estimate of getting an extra gallon's worth of range per tank - at a wishful three bucks per gallon midgrade/premium I've made more back than paid for what has been otherwise a visual mod (90x3=$270).

Edit to ad: Dan messaged me that it's fine to paint the parts and they do/did come with UV inhibitor originally. I'm considering painting the opening itself to match the body color of the truck even though I expect between adhesion promoter, some type of base color (silver?) under the J7 magnetic spray then a clearcoat I'll spend more than just buying a new one.

Installed mine a few days ago. Had to shave a bit off the top as it was pushing up on the radiator cover and wouldn’t let it sit flush. Interestingly, my lifetime mpg went up by .1 mpg after a few days with it. Was it the big mouth? Who knows, but I’m interested to see if it goes up by more or not.

Update: A week with the big mouth and my lifetime mpg has gone up by .4 mpg. Starting to believe some of the claims on here…

I remarked earlier that after four years it appeared the original replaceable mouth was showing some deteriorating and after consulting with Dan I bought some metallic duplicolor paint and clearcut rattle cans to customize mine. Closer examination shows the 'mouth' has a Crack (bottom left corner) so I went to VT's website to order a replacement.

They offer a Diode Dynamics light up version and while I considered it for a second because I'm putting on a Putco light up emblem - it was just too much ? ...maybe if I had a different grill...

They advertise other shapes and it seems the hexagonal that I think I'd prefer isn't an option for us, unless Dan gets back to me to tell me otherwise. I may still paint the replacement.

EDIT: there is only one shape available for the 5G.
