Sorry for bumping such an old topic, but I had the same issue on my Ranger. Though it's a European version, the problem might be the same.

I noticed I got the super fast indicator flashing, like a bulb were out. But all my turns signals worked just fine.

However after taking it to Ford, they found out I had a short in my trailer wiring harness. So my truck believed that I actually had a trailer attached with non-functional turn signals. lol.
I called my dealer and passed that info along. You never know...it could be the culprit. They have had the truck for a week now. Thanks!

Makes sense in a way. If you look at the trailer connectors where the wires enter them there is no boot or sealant on them. Over time road grime, water and whatever else decides to infiltrate the connector can ‘semi-short’ a connection or two.

The lighting in these trucks is pretty sensitive. Doesn’t take much to get things acting up. I’ve read of some in here adding light bars to the back end and having similar problems. Thinks a trailer is attached when none is there.

For me lesson learned. If I want to mess around with the electrical system(s) and add bed lights, light bar or any other do dad I’ll use isolated relays to keep this gremlin at bay. When weather improves will be sealing up the trailer connectors from the back side too! That sounds like a headache waitin to happen!

Sorry for double posting. But today after getting new windshield wipers, my indicator started going super fast. But the other side was normal, so while at the grocery store I checked to see what bulb was out.

But all of them were working, I then noticed while being park. My other indicator started going super fast also, so I became suspicious that my "trailer" problem had returned.

I put the car in reverse to confirm my theory, my truck does indeed once again think that I have a trailer attached. While I do not, so it's giving me fast indicators because the turn signals on the "trailer" aren't working.

Talked to Ford, this will be the 5th time I've had problems with the wiring plug for trailers. So they've finally agreed to replace the entire harness and plug, instead of just keep trying to change out parts and clean it etc.

All the people I know with a Ranger that have fast indicators when all the lights are working, it's always been related to the trailer wiring acting up.

As you can see in the pictures, my truck believes that I have a trailer attached when I do not. The front parking sensor is just covered by some snow.
Thanks for the update! I passed the info on to my dealer. They still have my Ranger. 8 days now. I told the general manager I need it back Friday as I need to kayak fish this weekend. Hoping my issue can be fixed by replacing the rear trailer harness as well.

Any update on your truck yet?
They just called me. It's fixed! The culprit was a wire "on the frame" in the trailer wiring. I'll assume "on the frame" means the wire was worn or touching the frame in a way to cause a short.

Thanks for the great supporting information to point them in the right direction!

I'm going through this right now. I hooked up a 12 volt light to the red battery and a negative that was near the driver headlamp. I just wanted to see if this light i had worked. I removed it once i saw it was good and ever sine then i have a hyper flash and my front driver turn indicator doesn't flash (it lights up but wont flash). Forscan says a short to ground. I tried to clear it but it immediately starts back hyperflashing. I'm dreading having to take it to the dealer for this but I may have to....
