There are reports of the new Tundras having wastegate issues as well. Wonder if they may have a common supplier?2022, just got it like two nights ago.

Almost. Take the front seats out and replace with milk crateYou will now experience what it feels like to drive a Taco.
I am going through a similar issue. I bought my 2022 about a week ago. I've driven it twice. Once home from the dealership and it threw the powertrain malfunction. Next, I drove it to a local dealer to have it looked at. They said it was the turbo wastegate and replaced it however it did not fix the issue once the technician discovered after installing it. Ford engineering told them to replace the entire turbo. So now we are waiting on parts. They think I will have my truck back by early next week. I was told driving it is not a good idea, so they managed to get me into a loaner car for now. I hope this isn't a common issue with this truck as I have never had a new vehicle with a major issue like this before. I bought the 100k mile warranty which I never do buying new vehicles, but I feel like it might have been a good idea this time.2022, just got it like two nights ago.
Tundras are having issues with IHI turbos. Ford had been using Borg Warner 2019-2921. IF Ford switched to IHI in 2022 it very well may be the same issue. I hope not based on my decade plus experience working in a turbo shop. IHI’s were not well regarded. ?There are reports of the new Tundras having wastegate issues as well. Is there a way of telling if FORD made the switch (ie any markings)? Not sure if there is any documentation on this. I personally am not familiar with turbos like yourself.Tundras are having issues with IHI turbos. Ford had been using Borg Warner 2019-2921. Casting numbers on housings and tag numbers also. A picture of the turbo would help too. Like I said the Ford part number would also tell.Is there a way of telling if FORD made the switch (ie any markings)? Not sure if there is any documentation on this. They might have changed suppliers to keep the line going? It could be like the bad batch of valves on the Bronco. IIRC they switched suppliers and had many Bronco's blown up with the 2.7. None of the F150's have had this problem AFAIK.But still wouldn’t understand them changing just for 2022. Why not stay with what’s working. Especially with major model change coming. ?‍![]()
Possible but unlikely seeing the turbo is unique in design to the 2.3L. Unless an IHI was already developed for the application ( looong lead time for development/production) or used on another model of vehicle with 2.3L ( Bronco?) I’m guessing not. I guess what I’m saying is if they switched to IHI it was planned quite a while ago. They might have changed suppliers to keep the line going? It could be like the bad batch of valves on the Bronco. Did they replace the entire turbo?***Update time!
today is repair day, got my truck in right at 7AM when they opened, they had everything finished by 11:30Am -pretty happy about that. While I was dropping off, I told the service advisor I wanted my brakes checked as they were pretty weak (Thanks for all the posts about telling the dealer to fix the brakes everyone!).
When I picked the truck up, the mechanic not only did the brakes, but did a truck-wide diagnostic check on all systems to make sure there were no further issues so Pretty happy there.
Finally, I have been afraid to try sport mode with a bad turbo, so on the way back (after the engine was warmed up) I was able to finally click into that fun "S" slot, and boy was that fun! Thanks everyone for the good comments and emojis as I waited to get my repair done.
