Trip planning for Wyoming?!

So as some may know I already have a plan to go through Wyoming in August for the Backcountry Discovery Route.

Well I just got a copy of the Best(Scenic) Roads to Drive on Wyoming. After looking at the map it looks like there is more than enough to keep one busy for a long time.

What I'm curious about is who would be interested in taking an extended weekend(4-5 days) to have fun checking some of the roads out? Things will be simple for the most part,but 4WD will be required as certain parts can get muddy quick from a rain storm. I also figured it would be nice to get a feel for what is out there if you haven't been!

Keep in mind that yes I will be in my Frontier since I don't have the Ranger anymore(though I kinda miss it). I feel this should still be something for anyone to enjoy.

I lived in WY for over 20 years. No worries about rain/mud in August. Our average rainfall is only 8-10 inches per year!

You will no doubt spend some time in Yellowstone. Be sure and drive the Beartooth Highway when exiting the park.. Blowers blew out 15' of snow to open it last week . The drive is beautiful.. Lots to see and do in Cody and 15 miles north is Heart Mountain, home of the best preserved Japanese interment camp from WWII in the U.S. The National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois (Wife said "no" but was fascinated and wants to go back) then stay on highway 26 westward, the view of the Tetons is spectacular as you get closer and not the same driving eastward. Jackson is interesting and worth a walkabout and lunch, but too expensive for normal people (Average home sale price last year $4M). On the north side is the National Wildlife Art Museum. It's excellent. Hot springs in Thermopolis is a good stop as is the Mountain Man Museum in Pinedale. An enjoyable off-road drive is Union Pass from highway 191 over to Dubois, not challenging but an off-road experience. Dubois has a good brew pub too.

Enjoy your travels. Others may chime in with their own things, but the above will keep you busy for awhile.

I may be strange, but I have to say that the Grand Tetons are highly underappreciated. It is pretty amazing how they literally just pop right out of the relatively flat ground around them. There is LOTS to explore in that area. Not sure about off road trails, but hiking trails abound.

Yellowstone is neat but has gotten to be quite a zoo.

Would love to. Truly. But not retired yet. Live a long ways from WY. And unfortunately, as with every other year, have to balance my vacation days with my plans/needs.

Retirement is coming. As of this morning only 1068 days and a wake-up! But who’s counting? ?

There is sooooo much more in Wyoming than Yellowstone. More remote unpopulated rough country than anyone could imagine. Go wander the forests and steal ideas from the organized Jeep trail off road tour groups.

I don't even have plans to go towards Yellowstone for a while. If anything this particular map with different good roads to go check out is a nice good start to begin with. Question of who might want to actually join in for the fun.
