My 2019 XL has always gone from 1st to 3rd, from new. I just thought that 2nd was so short it didn't register.

I really have to be creeping along to see 2nd gear.
I hate the way it skips 2nd and lugs especially when you're on a side road. I've got in the habit now just dropping it into S when I take off from a dead stop.

What about the shutter in the lower gears? Anyone else feel that?
There is a thread about that issue, not transmission related but a symptom of a bad EGR DPFE sensor. In my case (having lost faith and trust in dealers) I changed the DPFE valve myself. The price in April 23 was under $20, it is now close to $80. I took the one I put 17 months ago off because I was getting the symptoms again and it and the hoses had moisture in it. I used a blow drier to clear the hoses and shook and used Q-tips to dry as much of the sensor as I could. The performance is better, but not what it was. I will take it to the local dealer when it gets to be a pain again. According to a post on that thread, there is no communication between the two tubes that hook into the sensor; the two chambers of the sensor are separated by a membrane that reacts to pressure changes. It is true that the performance improves if you drive in Sport or (if you have it) tow mode. There are no codes triggered by the sensor failure; I believe it's a design flaw.

In "tow" or "sport" mode, it will not skip 2nd...

10R80 death sequence:

1st sign-trans has long pause after first gear then slams violently into second...
2nd-trans hunts gears up and down at steady highway speed...
3rd-trans gets hung up in high gear at full stop...
4th-trans randomly slams in every gear up and down, fluid blows out...
5th-put a fork in it...
Re the 1st symptom, mine skips 2nd normally, but I use tow mode at times starting off and it uses 2nd fine. There is at times a little surge in the 1st to 3rd but that seems to be by design with ski skipping 2nd. No other symptoms so far so good for ‘19
