Transmission Firmware Update?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to update the PCM?/TCM firmware with FORScan? And or check if it’s up-to-date.? I’ve read contradicting things some people saying no only Ford can do it. But I also found a FS forum sayings it’s easy…

90% sure my Ranger has the updated transmission. But the last time it serviced would’ve been 2023… so guessing the transmission strategy and stuff is not the most up-to-date from the TSB

I am not sure if Forscan will do it and if it does, as with any scan tool it will require a J2534- Passthrough adapter - and the cheapest cable (outside of the ones that come with scan tools like my Snap-On or TopDon is the Mongoose Cable and they run about 500-700. As you are programming - this is outside of general As-Built modifications.
So for a DYI Check - you can get a short use of FDFRS but you will need the cable (Mongoose) or similar as FDRS will not allow communication unless its an approved cable, this is how I have updated Software and the last I checked the TCU had a update available but never got around to installing it. Note: We only have the PCM for transmission control.
I have really only used Forscan for the As-Built data changes as it sucks for any real troubleshooting (Live Data)
The main reason that I do not think it will work as you must be able to get Forscan to communicate with Ford Servers for the download and with my brief playing with Forscan I do not recall seeing anything about programming - some older Fords it was possible but not the Ranger (if I am correct)

yes you must get the transmission strategy code off the tag on the side of the transmission by electronic plug or off the valvebody itself and you can update it with forscan if it isn't already.
