Anyone have a toolkit they like? I know just like first aid kits you can build a kit for cheaper and suited more to your own needs but just wondering if anyone has a good recommendation on a basic mechanic tool kit to keep in the rig that i can add too.

I started by getting this stuff:

Then added a tire kit:

I also have this for the lug nuts:

Also a bottle jack, air compressor, and lots of other stuff (like some recovery gear).

BUT ... in reality, if something poops out it will likely be a computer and then the only effective toolkit I have is a credit card and triple AAA or Ford Care ...

I carry just a cheap mechanic tool kit from Harbor Freight. Has the basics and if I lose something I don't cry. My good tools are at home. Also carry what I need to change a tire in my swing out cases, along with a bottle jack. That OEM thing is junk, the only part I use is the rods to get the spare down.

Not much really needed thankfully. If you truly need to work on it have your toolbox in the garage at the ready. If something gets real nasty while out there you would be best to sent it to a shop

When I am off-road where tow trucks can't get to me, I carry a tonne of tools. Full 1/4" & 3/8" & 1/2" socket set, plus extra extensions, specialty ratchet handles, 1/2" torque wrench, 18" Johnson bar, 1/2 impact gun (700lb breaking torque), impact sockets, extensions, flex joints, 4.5" grinder with cut off wheels, recipro saw, extra batteries/fast charger, long and stubby wrench sets, pliers, vice grips, pipe wrench, screw drivers, pry bars, mini sledge, zip ties, mechanics wire, duct tape, ratchet straps, high lift, bottle jack or two, 2x10 support boards, and maybe a few things I'm missing. I'm fairly mechanical, and want to be able to fix or remove whatever breaks if I can. Really remote, long camping trips, or early season I'll also bring a chainsaw and axe. Long road trips without wheeling, mostly just the hand tools and impact gun.

Day to day only the impact gun, torque wrench and 19mm socket in case of a flat. Anything beyond a flat is likely to get caught in regular maintenance, call a friend to come help bring tools, or Ford Roadside (how long does that last for free?) or join CAA on the spot if Ford Roadside doesn't help.

I'd love to but it looks like WesternWeld no longer has a website (they may have been bought out by another American company - it's a US Made kit).

BUT ... let me see if it's on Amazon. By the way, I chose this one because of Farm Project on YouTube - he tests many things many forum members use.

Amazon link (the kit I have) - $43.95:
https://www.amazon.com/Sherco-Auto-Tire-Professional-Piece-Repair/dp/B07QD2QTRP

There's also a different version on eBay - $48.95 (I think more like the one in the video,, but it's still WesternWeld):
https://www.ebay.com/itm/174329441955

Here's the link to my post showing pics of the kit I have:

Farm Project video on these:

Good luck!

I just took tools I had laying around, ( I have a lot) and bought a cheap plastic tool box and put them in it.
Mostly automotive, some carpentry, plumbing and electrical things in it. My big tool boxes are in storage so this one rides in the bed of the truck.
Also have combination jack/stand in the bed as well.
