Hi community, I have a simple and quick question that I believe I know the answer but want to validate. Will 265/70R17 tires fit a 2021 4WD Ranger XLT SuperCab without any modifications like extenders, etc? The threads seem to suggest yes this is a good fit, however since there are so many different standard size tires I was not sure if there are small differences in the front frame or suspension depending on the trim level. Mine came stock with 255/65R17.

Yes they should fit fine. I had 265/70/17 duratracs on a stock ranger for a bit, and you could very occasionally detect a slight rub, likely on the cover on the front crash bar while at full lock hitting a bump like backing out of a driveway.

Thanks for your reply. There is lots of threads on this topic so it may seem like a dumb question since this is a common tire size, but many of the threads also discuss lift kits or some other modification. Also, I have not seen any specific mention as to OEM differences in the suspension based solely on trim variances.

I've had BFG KO2's in LT265/70R17 since 2022, been off-road a lot, but no rubbing(XL, FX4).

*It has level kit in profile pic, but that was done only couple months ago. Stock before that.

I'm new to the forum and just getting use to it. I found the 'Tire Size master thread' and starting my conversation there. Thanks.

I have a 2022 xlt super crew that came stock with the 255/65 r17 tires. I recently put on falken at4w 265/65 R17 to improve handling and ride while towing. They work great no rubbing, track and ride better than original, even when not towing . Just put them right on stock rims no spacers or mods. The tire shop ( big O tire) rep told me I could have gone with 265/70 r17 as it was within the 3% allowed difference from stock.

Tires vary by brand a lot. I just went to Continental TerrainContact A/T and they run pretty big. They are 1 inch taller and nearly an inch wider than the stock 265/65R17 Hankook's on my FX4. BFG KO2's run the smallest. I did go up 3/4" in the front but have had no rubbing. These photos may help.

Good thought on the specific tire differences. My first new set of tire purchases will be snow tires, which can be beefy, so I will need to do some more research. At this point I may just get 265/65 tires to be safe but they oddly are more expensive than the 265/70.

Like I said, I was a little surprised as to how much bigger these were. More so the width than height. I run BFG KO2's on my Jeeps and they are noticeably smaller than what they replace. In all my searches, it seems pretty unanimous that 265/70 will fit without rubbing. As snow tires tend to be a little more narrow than other styles to help them dig in, I think you will be good. My local Discount Tire will mount one tire and wheel, throw it on the front and let me check everything for clearance before continuing. They said there was no need with the 265/70. They have done a lot of them. Strange about the price difference.

If 265/70 doesn’t fit on your truck, I’m pretty sure you would be the first documented case. Just do it.

Thank you for the very specific feedback. I will go ahead with the 265/70 based on what you and others have said. I will also go to Discount Tire so I can ask them to verify like you did as well.

Yes. 265/70-17 was a factory optional size in 2019-2020. I have a 1.5" level but they fit fine before I put the level on.

I'm limited to what my tire guy's computer tells him. He had different tire sizes for stock, 1", 2" and 2.5" leveling kits for my Ranger. So I'm guessing a good tire shop could tell you.
Some tire shops won't let you put on anything other than what the door sticker states. Probably that's store warranty/insurance/lawyer reason.
