Glad I could help ?Ha I feel slightly less weird thank you.
Yeah after my experience with both BFG and the Firestone Destination XT I can promise you the XT will win over the KO2. Also the amount of weight between the tires is bigger than you believe. First off you have Unsprung Weight. The lower it is the better the suspension will handle the vehicle. @P. A. Schilke can elaborate a bit better I'm sure. Also with a lower rotational weight it is much easier to have better Fuel Mileage and accelerate easier.Ok that’s not too dramatic of a difference. BFG is a well proven tire and I really don’t care for the Firestone brand. However I would go Toyo over BFG on any day. BFG wear like iron and feels like it too, Toyos have great wear with a better ride. That’s my experience from the too high 4x4 F150 I had before my Ranger. That’s my choice when the hankooks wear out.
Between the two the sidewalls are very close in comparison. I personally feel the Firestone is an Overall better tire in general thanks to.my experience. As for availability you are not wrong there.I guess it depends on the look you’re after. If it makes a difference to you, the KO2 seems to have a more agressive looking sidewall.
These days, it might also depend on what’s in stock.
It really depends on ones needs and what brands they prefer. The Cooper STT Pro is an Agressive Mud Terrain. With that said if you domt have a rig set for OffRoad for more that 60% of the time then you probably dont need a Mud Terrain.I believe it is Vogon poetry. Have to admit it's been a while since I ve read that one. Why doesn't anyone consider Cooper tires. The stt pro is a very capable and handsome tire imo.
Hi Frenchymy input. the two tires are not apple vs apple. the firestone is more moderate all terrain tire which is more like a street tire with some attitude and ability to handle off pavement duty admirably. im not saying it cant do well off road. firestone fans dont get your knickers twisted. the bfg ko2 was designed based on being an off road tire as first priority as an update to the old school bfg a/t that some of the oldsters called the baja champ and all that. so while capable of street use it is not the forte. it is also more puncture resistant than most tires in a/t class and has some of the toughest sidewalls you can get in a street legal tire for a light truck. while that may sound cool the reality is the ko2 tires kinda stink on the street. they will wear a bit quicker and are heavy. they are not as bad as a legit mud tire like the km3 or krawlers and swampers on the street. so where the firestone shines the bfg lacks, and where the bfg shines the firestone will lack. I know folks will disagree but if you actually need a all terrain tire - meaning not the best at rocks, mud, dirt, sand, snow but need a tire that is pretty good at all of them and tough you will not find one better than the ko2. Yes, i have a set of them. no, i am not a fan boy. ive also used firestones, kumhos, good years, cooper, michelin and other brands including the cheapo pathfinder and finalist. as much as i like the ko2 i will say flat out they are next to terrible on wet roads. easily loose traction and will hydroplane. i found that out the hard way lol. the only at tire ive ever used that was worse on wet roads ever was a good year wrangler. they were ditch magnets. first drop and i may as well have just pulled over. if your needs are more street then off road go fires. if more off road adventure is your plan go bfg. cooper and falken also make some good a/t tires in ranger sizes. many of the coopers are made in usa too. honestly if i was going new tires id be shopping coopers for a lil better street manners. when i put the ko2 set on i didnt really know just how well the ranger does off road. i assumed the truck would really need the help of an off road tire.
One thong I am curious of is what size was the Toyota you were referring to? Also was it a P rated tire or an LT? Those are things to consider. Mind you that I am aware I believe the Firestone is only available in an LT with its available sizes. Even with it being an LT it is very comfortable. That being said its still not going to compare to a P rated tire.Hi Frenchy
I read all of your posts I come across. You have a very solid background IMHO. I may be a little prejudiced on Firestone.
I do know from my experience and many others I associate with personally or nebulously pretty much prefer Toyo as a great all around tire. But hey that’s why we’re here. The Toyo is lighter weight and you know the benefits of that… I was a desert marauder with quite a bit of “flight” time in places like Death Valley etc… Also a lot of snow/ice driving with the same tire and they’ve came out on top.
I was actually a huge BFG fan until I got my first set of Toyos. Pricey yes but the performance overall was hands down best for my application.
I just may take a second look at Firestone.
Thanks
Not Toyota but Toyo.. LT version with 65k mile rating.. yea at 50k they start to lose traction… check them out..One thong I am curious of is what size was the Toyota you were referring to?
