Yeah 255/85-16 is as tall as I’ll ever go on my ranger.

You have 235/85-17 on 17x8 wheels? I know most tire manufacturers that I’ve seen don’t recommend anything wider then a 7 inch wheel with a 235/85.
No, 235/80-17. You misread, or I misspoke.

tall skinny is the way to go for 90% of off road work, with the exceptions being where "flotation" is needed. I wanted pizza cutters so badly, but flash floods and heavy down pours are a norm in my area. i had pizza cutters on a different truck a few years back and it was awesome until the road was wet... they loved to slip n slide on wet road.

My plan for a winter setup is Factory 16" steelies and 245/75r16 studded tires. Skinny tires work awesome in the snow and slush. Although the factory hankooks are doing ok, in MT you can really substitute skinny studded tires with the slush in the day and black ice in the bitter cold nights.

If I could find 235 in the factory diameter of 30.5 I would get them but didn’t find any in winter studdable.

235/85r16 Firestone winter force. 32”
I considered 215/85r16 (30”) but opted for the bigger tire.
In retro spec I wish I would have gone with the stock 16x7 steel rims when I ordered my ranger.

my ranger with the 7.5r16 KM3s and method 16x7 +25 offset 107 wheels.
I didn’t know manufacturers were making modern styles in that size.

I think @RoadBoss has a skinnier tire on factory steel wheels. And after watching some of his videos, they are definitely the right choice for the off-roading he does to get to his camps.
