Happy Father's Day!

I was going through the 300+ reviews on Suma's website and came across some amusing (to me) comments how switching to the larger rear viewing area was 'disorienting' at first. And one that said the passenger side didn't provide as big of an improvement as they anticipated.

Those were for other vehicles and it leads me to think the size and design if our trucks would benefit more as opposed to a compact sedan .

I'm going to sleep on it a few days. Got to think about how to get the turn signal function out to the mirrors. Since I toe a large boat the clear views would be a better option, but I don't want some big thing out there for the majority of time I'm not towing.

A couple thoughts:

1. I almost missed this - again - because of life stuff. Glad I clicked on r5g today, thanks muscle memory. Maybe others are out there wanting these too but not getting notified makes it tough.

2. The glare and visibility in side mirrors are probably my biggest annoyance with the truck. I'm going blue, I hope it's a good choice. It's always sunny in Hawaii and/or aftermarket LEDs on garbage lifted Tacomas are thick as the cockroaches here.

Hawaii? Yeah, you may be right. If I thought I was going to spend the rest of my days in South Florida I would have too. But life is moving me all over the mid south. I didn't opt for the blue tint even though it wasn't an upcharge.

does anyone know if the XLT has wiring for the turn signals already in the system, just not hooked up? I'd love turn signals on the mirrors.

I think you'll need the door harness for a Lariat unless someone can identify where to run a set of wires to hook them up.

Some info may be here:
https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/how-to-add-lariat-heated-mirrors-to-an-xlt.10664/

Edit to add: I could do the easy thing and just tap into the marker lights in the mirror but I may chase the wiring back into the door to keep things neat. The temptation becomes soundproofing the door while I'm at it. It may turn into a bigger project ??

10 days left before the group buy discount (currently at 10% but could go higher) ends.

I got to contemplating how the wider view mirror would compliment or minimize the BLIS feature. It took me a while to 'trust' the feature and perhaps I still don't completely ?.

After reading reviews of how some customers were initially 'disoriented' by the mirror swap it got me thinking - will I reference the BLIS indicator sooner more than later, will it be the check on my mirror or will the mirror be the check in the blind spot system? I was in heavy traffic watching the respective indicators flashing and wondered if checking the mirror was faster than looking for the light and if the mirror was convex would I be able to anticipate better the potential traffic moving into my blind spot.

I suppose it will take time to observe and adjust.

A week to go for the pre-order discount!

Those of us who have participated thanks to Suma's generous repeat/reboot offer at minimum are getting double the 5% sale discount by using the 'RANGER' code at checkout for 10% off immediately but selfishly I'd like a bigger one so I'm bumping this thread ahead of the deadline.

The mirrors are individually custom made and install payments are available to ease the pain of the premium price that accompanies what I perceive as a premium upgrade.

I found these on AliExpress and while adding DRLs to the mirrors is intriguing I can't be sure of the quality and durability. Plus I'm too damn lazy to run a wire from the headlights to the door for the DRL feature.

Twenty twenty twenty four hours to go oh oh ?

Gentle and urgent reminder!

I'm looking forward to better visibility in busy traffic and had another expectation come to mind backing into a parking spot. While the rearview camera system is great, from videos it looks like these are going to provide me better lower vision along side my truck as well.

I don't typically position my mirrors to 'see' the sides of the truck except when towing or stuff is in the bed but the vertical expansion means I can see curbs and objects from the driver's seat in back beyond the bumper. The mirror glass upgrade is going to give me more to work with.

12 hours to go (well, here on the East Coast) and driving home I looked at other trucks, both full and midsize and realized how small the Ranger (and Sportrack) - even previous generation's side mirrors are/were.

I do think Ford tucked the 5G Ranger's in pretty close to the body and while it's still better than a sedan some SUV's and even minivans have bigger mirrors. Some midsize trucks I observed have mirrors farther out from the body than ours.

Another reason to get an expanded rear view!

Edit: remember to respond here if you order (first post(s) in this thread) so we can keep track. Everyone so far has gotten at minimum 10% off - more than Suma's usual sale price - and if we hit a threshold we'll get up to 30% off!
