STX spare issue FYI

So I ordered 5 falken 265/70r17 tires to go on stock rims. Well the spare rim is 16” not the 17” rims on truck. Wow Ford cheaped out again I just assumed that the spare would be 17” even if it was just a steelie wheel. So now I’ll be hunting a 17” wheel for the fifth tire. Of course I’m sitting in the lobby waiting on the tires and alignment when it was brought to my attention. No biggie just a heads up for those of us who like to have our spare match the rest of the wheels. Oh by the way anyone have a silver painted aluminum wheel pull off in Roanoke Va

its just me, but i find it pointless to match the spare to the truck unless i am also matching the wheel and plan on doing the 5 tire rotation.

the wheel parked under there is always covered in shit and i wouldnt want to subject a matching wheel to that scenario because it would look like garbage in no time.

its a spare...its an occasional use item to get you out of a bind.

Match is to avoid running different size tires.

Yup, its weird. You have 17" wheels and 16" spare. I have 18" wheels with a 17" spare. I don't get. You can find the ford 17" steel spare wheel on the internet cheaper than the dealer.

Different sizes not to bad to get out of situation but if I’m delayed or forget having everything match is the best route to go.

My 19 XL came with a non steel wheel spare and a different brand but same size tire. Both say do not drive over 50mph for 50 miles. Are both wheel and tire cheap? Not good on a truck Ford. My 68 Chev C-20 came with a spare wheel with no tire. When I worked for a fleet we ordered full size spares and got them even if they didnt fit in the little cars. It should be an option to get a matching spare. With all of the wierd stupid crap that is an option you would think that a matching spare which is functional would be a option. Especially with a 4X4 vehicle. Now I have something for the complaint post.

you can get steel 17" spare wheel off ebay for under $70. I was looking at getting one if I go with 285/70/17 tires to replace my 16" spare. I can get a acceptable 16" spare if I go 265/70/17

From what I've found if I go with 265/70/17 tires I can throw a 265/75/16 tire on an be right at the same overall diameter. The tire I'm looking at is 31.7 an the spare is to get me through until I can replace the tire. You can get by with it being close if it's only used to get around to replace the flat but I don't know what the range is.

Went through the same thing myself late last year. Fortunately, being ocd to this site, I got it right and it was cheap.

if its to get you to the tire shop, slightly different sized tires isnt a major concern for the short term.
like i said, if your planning on running a 5 tire rotation i get it, but damn that nice matching rim wont be so nice after a winters worth of road shit before the next rotation is due.

Agree on the rim being for cosmetics only. I imagine it can get pretty nasty under there especially in the great white north. Tire diameter can be matched on different rim sizes by changing the sidewall profile. Overall tire diameter regardless of rim size I like to be the same with all the terrain modes, locker, etc. especially if you are wheeling or towing in a remote spot like going to the FL Keys across Alligator Alley and 7 mile bridge.

Just to add another data point, I have a 2020 STX with the FX4 package and I have a matching spare. The wheel is not the same but the tire is a Dynapro ATM just like the other 4 in the same 265/65/17 size.
