It happens everywhere. In foreign countries, thieves will steal $20K pumps and valves from a job site, then resell them back to the company for a few hundred dollars.

It’s amazing how the news cycles have trained us to look to solutions to crime other than actually stopping crime. We need better locks, better alarms….blah, blah, blah. Locks and alarms are merely a nuisance to a skilled and determined thief. Thieves have been stealing cars and cars parts as long as there have been cars. We are numb to it until we are finally the victim.

This thread makes me thankful that I have a hard roll up tonneau cover and the factory drop in bed liner. Too much effort for the average thief to get those two things out of the way to even begin working on removing those screws to release the taillights.

??? but how? I mean how they reach the screws without opening the tailgate?
They removed 3 screws in each side of the cover plate on the tailgate giving them access to the cable reached in on both sides of the tailgate and opened it without triggering the alarm

wow that sucks.... these tail lights are ridiculously expensive and dont they have to be programed by the dealer to work??? for the blind spot radar?? how are thieves or those who buy stolen ones getting them programed to the truck or am I wrong about that? how about we start to actually prosecute criminals? if they are really 1-2k each isn't that above misdemeanor level? -- not that it matters in CA where all crime is legal. sad.......

Cover plate on the tailgate? Are you referring to the Ford Logo? They removed that and that gave them access to the cable? Other than that logo, I don't see any way to get to the inside of the tailgate.

Or did they do it from the INSIDE of the tailgate? That would make more sense I guess.

This sucks!! Sorry man. Anyone remember when Cadillac bumpers were getting stolen? Anyone who had a Caddy had to get their bumper welded on. Back in the 80s the bumpers were $1500 dollars. So kids would steal them and sell. them to a body shop for 500.
If the body shop buys them, why aren't they hit with receiving stolen property? This is the thing that always baffles me. If a 'hood rat shows up at your shop with parts that have hasty tool marks all over them or a tweaker shows up at your yard with a wad of copper cable, how hard is this to figure out?

Sorry to hear that but at least you have insurance to cover it. Wondering how they opened the tailgate without damaging, if the truck was locked.
And when will we stop blaming the manufacturers for criminal behavior?
Let's blame the criminals, politicians and legal for not holding them responsible.
I want my vehicle easy to fix. I shouldn't have to go to a dealer and drop a couple thousand to replace a tailight. Bad enough that the part is expensive but if it's difficult to disassemble, the the labor costs are high also. Unfortunately, easy to disassemble an expensive part makes it easy for theives.
Let's fix the source of the problem and hold the thieves responsible.
Again, sorry you have to deal with this and not blaming you at all.
"And when will we stop blaming the manufacturers for criminal behavior?"
There are those who might say that a grand for a piece of red plastic was criminal behavior...

seriously? I mean, haven't you noticed that your country has the most people in prison among the first world countries in the world? something like 500 per 100k inhabitants. That's at least 100 less than in El Salvador, but... the Russians only have 300...

It's true, way too many in prison. We should be executing them on sight. But prison is better then letting them run wild like the rapeugees do over in your neck of the woods.
Yes where is Judge Dredd these days or even Mr Majestic , think I'll pull out and read "the Oxbow Incident" for inspiration.

If you’re going to suggest that incarceration rates have no impact on crime, you are mistaken. Crime rates in low incarceration countries like El Salvador are much higher than in the US. They are the lowest in countries with strict Sharia Law (Eye for an eye type punishment).

Stats and quotes are great at telling whatever story you want.
Do you have an actual solution?

Start looking on FB marketplace and creigslist maybe you can find them and buy them back cheaper than new ones? or put an ad up WTB wanted to buy and see what happens
and then tell them you need a receipt for your insurance company ....
I would be out for Blood! also let the local dealer know because who ever buys them they are going to need to get them paired to their truck, I believe they all have that little F***ING radar unit in them and I dont think you can just do that with ForScan Program
