I am at a point in my life where I can factory order my new vehicles and pay cash for them. When I send out requests for bids for a new vehicle, I include the following:

I will only accept the vehicle as it was shipped by the manufacturer; I will not accept, nor pay for, any dealer add-ons such as vehicle identification number etching, window tinting, upholstery coating, wind deflector, car alarm, pin striping, security tracking device, wheel locks, nitrogen for tires, etc. I will not accept the vehicle if any wiring has been cut, tapped into, or modified in any manner.

So far, I haven't had any issues but if the above happened, I would walk from the sale.
Being able to set your expectations makes it so much better for both parties.

When I found my truck at a dealer an hour away, I talked to the sales guy and said I would only come up and make a deal if he promised none of those ridiculous shenanigans would take place. When I got there, the truck had just come off the vehicle hauler and when I picked it up later that week, he had been true to his word.

I’d buy from him again and happily recommend the dealer.

When I was searching for my Tremor just about every dealer had crazy dealer msrp mark ups or ADM's. The one I ended up with was in Spokane, WA and it was just built and on route to their dealership. They were selling it at msrp and seeing as it didn't hit the dealers floor yet they didn't add anything extra to it. It was worth the plane tickets to fly up there and drive it back and we had a nice 2 day road trip seeing parts of the country we've never been to.

I refuse to pay crazy dealers ADM's and stupid msrp markups. Look at all those fools who paid $20K or more when the Bronco first came out. My '19 Ranger had all sorts of ADM's from Peoria Ford that totaled just under $3,000. o_O I told them the only thing I'd pay for was the window tint and the bed liner as I would've added them anyways (a lot cheaper) but I got it for a good price and was happy in the end.

Nope, purchased CPO used from Sam Galloway Ford in Fort Myers, financed through AAA Banking car loan. Have since paid that off by balance transferring to 0% Bank of America credit card. It is odd the the FoMoCo thingie that was inline with the back of the OBD port & my white ziptie are gone ( everything else up there & other zipties are black). This may have been there before but I don't remember seeing it or it's long, bunched up pigtail. The little narrow rectangular connector was connected to matching connector coming off wiring harness near OBD big, fat wiring harness.
We bought a used Honda Pilot this Feb at Arlington Toyota in Jacksonville Fl and they put a tracker in it. We paid cash so why put something in it like that? I took it out and threw it in the trash. I have since checked my Ranger (bought in Georgia) and it doesn't has such device.
Just like your phones tracking and listening and ford mysync tracking your every move. If you don't believe big brother is watching you then your more nieve than we thought.

Trackers. Dealers are incentivized by companies to add these to their vehicles and then charge the customer for them, branding it as a vehicle theft recovery system. It's all BS. The stealerships get a kickback from the companies selling this crap and they sneak it into the contract, so if you're not looking carefully, then you'll end up buying some crap you don't need.

The stealership that I bought my Ranger from refused to remove it, saying it was hard wired in ... and in reality it's just plugged into the OBD port and shoved up under the dash. I told them I'm walking from the deal if they try to make me buy it and suddenly they said I can have it for no charge.

POS came loose after I left the lot and got tangled around my foot while I was driving. I lit that fkn sales rep up when I got home about that entire BS ordeal. I took it out and tossed it aside. They're trash.

Even if it's not activated with a subscription you're paying for, that doesn't mean it's not actively collecting your data. In many cases that data is sold back to insurance companies without your knowledge and they use it to adjust your rates. Lots of news stories about it.
