My new to me 2019 Lariat has some peculiar features I didn’t expect.
i finally got a chance to crawl under and inspect more closely “ Fords better Idea”
first off what’s with the oil filter location?
They put a oil drain funnel to catch the oil from the filter, when it drains out during removal and install kinda weird, but will have to see how well this works
It looks like I can Reach the filter thru a flap in the wheel well, not to bad….. won’t be able to pre fill the filter without a huge mess!
I found the trans fluid inspection port is kinda dumb, no dipstick…..
found the transfer case fluid check, and the front differential is normal ford.
I also saw another drain spout above the front differential for something I’m not sure.
also saw the fuel tank crash plate is plastic, the other plates are metal.
Trans pan is plastic as well.
didnt see many zerk fittings either, so not much for greased joints even at the U joints and front yokes. The two piece driveshaft has a carrier in the center, with no grease fitting so hope that’s not an issue, or just a replace item when failing.
I'm sure most of you have discovered these things already, it’s new for me so just seeing what I’m dealing with when it’s time for servicing.
Also saw 2 serpentine belts Really ? hope it’s easy to replace….
Thank, Sportz

I prefill my oil filter, then let it sit until it soaks it up like a sponge. Doesn't drip unless you fill it completely multiple times.

MBS gets you a proper engine bay transmission dipstick... the "Fitzstick" is very high quality.

RETIRED!!!!
The filter location really isn’t bad. Follow the drip pan underneath by the front wheel. Put a drain pan there and no mess at all.

Sheesh, a little reading on this site would have revealed all that before you bought it.
Now who's gonna break the news about the fuel in the oil, hvac issues, water in #4, transmission issues.... ?

The turbo 4 was shoehorned into this truck, not designed for it. Be thankful you even get to the filter without removing the engine. :)
Yea I really like the truck, I was just complaining about the lack of small items ford decided were good ideas, no trans dipstick, and cramped filter access, plastic covers etc. I have a 2017 King Ranch f350 6.7L for pulling my fifthwheel.
It Is equipped with much better access and quality.

Actually, the plastic fuel tank plate makes sense from a safety standpoint. In a severe accident, a metal plate contacting a ruptured metal fuel tank wouldn't be the ideal situation. Ford may still have the Pinto on their minds.

Yea I’ve read about the current issues with the trans in the rangers/f150 hopefully I won’t have the shifting problems in mine, I opted for the extended warranty for that reason. 5yr.100k

I think the gaurd on the tank is to prevent small rocks or some light debris from punching a hole in the tank, it’s not robust enough to prevent a boulder or tree stump from damaging the tank. I don’t off road that much so probably not an issue for me.
I do recall the hysteria about the pinto and the location of the fuel tank right next to the back bumper, Yikes!
