I'll just say this. Mine failed at 2,700 miles leaving me stranded for over 4+ hours requiring a tow. The wiring harness either got pulled apart or caught in the fan and the truck would not run. Had to coast off the road because the engine quit. I am looking through the Forum too see how common it is and came across this thread. Truck is still in the shop and the fan clutch is on back order.
If you could please ask dealer why this fails this way, at least at such low mileage we can rule out the support hose.
So it’s down to bearing (early) failure or when the clutch engages the module has more torque against it than what is visually seen with the test I have done thus far.
We need specifics on this , more than it just fails.
I am certain it has to be tied to the ability of the module to free spin on the raceway from my previous post and observations.
Thank you for the post

I forgot to add- Backorder = High failure rate & High Demand.

I don’t know what this specific part number fits but it is an example of a failure rate that we are not seeing outside of this forum.
Hmmm

Or it did before the "2020 health emergency".
Maybe yes, maybe no now. May just be suppliers can't keep up which is even slowing production of new vehicles. New production gets parts priority.

Mine has been in the shop almost 3 weeks now. Waiting for the part...backordered until the 13th apparently. Originally back ordered until August 31st but it keeps going up. Getting ridiculous.

I'll ask them when I got pick it up. Hopefully soon. As far as I know the part is still on backorder. Been almost two weeks without the truck now...

When I called them the other day they told me it was back ordered until the 14th. I am going to call them tomorrow and see if they have an update. Going on close to two weeks without mine now too.

Did you ever receive an update on the part? Called the dealer again and they moved the backorder date to September 22nd now after they told me the 14th originally. I have a feeling this is just going to keep getting pushed back more and more...

Yes, mine came in on the 13th and they fixed it the same day. It's ridiculous that you haven't gotten yours yet. Took me almost a month to get it.

Yes,

Bad fan clutch caused short in wiring and also blew the oil pressure sensor. Not the best engineering design in the world, that's for sure
Yea they warranty for 3 years should do a recall it's so much heat hitting that tube mount.... having a friend mock up metal so I can try and replace tube

No, everything rotates freely. There must be some torque on that hose though for it to fail eventually.
Or the rubber can't take the heat or is oxidizing. I suspect poor hose quality.

First time I've heard of this type of failure, now I'll have to go poke my head in there to see what it could take to fix if it comes to it (yay extended warranty) or if some preventative action (mod?) might help.
It was covered ??

Do you think maybe the hose deteriorated allowing the friction of the clutch to wrap the wires up, or did the clutch fail in the locked position causing the hose to fail.

This will aid in determining the solution. Stiffer hose vs a more rigid solution such as a separate metal bridge to anchor the sensor cable separate from the hose. I'm going to have to get under the hood to see what is feasible. I am certain that I am not leaving it stock, as it is a failure waiting to happen. The possibility may be low, but the repercussions are extensive.
I just looked at mine, it was rotted. The only thing tethering the sensor was the harness. This is known as an engineered failure point. This practice is unethical at very best. But this thing is designed to fail, forcing you back to the dealership.

I really like the 21mpg I get in this truck, but the rest of it...

This engine, in a early Ranger with a built AOD behind it, perfect truck. Actually, eliminating the direct injection, putting a conventional port system on it, and eliminating all the automated switched oil pressure shenanigan devices etc off of it...Then it'd be perfect.
