Something to keep in mind when a engine is sedated in power. It's usually for longevity reasons. For example the 6.7 Diesel that Ford has comes in two different configurations here in North America. You have the consumer lever that has more power available(even though it isn't all there if the truck isn't loaded) and you have the Heavy Duty Commercial version that has less power. Ford found the low power to help the overall longevity for the commercial vehicles. Of course that doesn't stop issues with the after treatment system thanks to operators shutting the vehicles off during a regen. Just something to keep in mind.

Also it doesn't compare to Stelantis engineering a truck to pull 11,500 lbs when it can't do 7,500 lbs safely.

Exactly, consumer grade units rarely run up to 24 / 7 with full load. Commercial units often do. De-rating helps keep those engines running reliably for longer. I imagine Ford had mine trucks in mind whenthey released this model. This is a market Toyota has largely had to themselves for a long rime with the 70 series. And it's a big market in this country.

2021 Ford Ranger Towing 4800lbs up and down a 17% grade for several miles in mid 80F temps. Stock trans pan at the time with Scan Gauge II. Tranny got hot, but not scary at 230F. I let it cool at the top and headed down. When serviced it later, the fluid looked and smelled fine. This was about a month into a three month trip. Later I added the PPE standard pan and FitzStick. The stick did not exist at that time. The truck was also at close to capacity and our combined was / is just a few hundred pounds under combined weight capacity. I bought this truck specifically for this trailer and these kinds of long trips. It works well, but 17% will tax most things.

That is why the Turbocharger is not only lubricated by oil, but also cooled by the engine coolant and the intercooler helping stabilize intake temps to a degree. I didn't have a travel trailer, but when I towed I went from 9,000 ft up a very steep grade going to 11,000 ft. Thanks to the Powertrain combination the boost was just right and yes the powertrain did get a bit warm, but it wasn't too much for it to handle.

The Garret units used on the Ford diesels are only oil and air cooled. The diesel Nissan pathfinder I used to own had a water cooled Garret unit which did more than 500,000 Km without any failure. That unit also had far less boost than modern units.

The 2.3 EcoBoost along with the 2.7 and 3.5 EcoBoost and I'm sure other EcoBoost engines from Ford are lubricated with Engine Oil and are cooled with Engine Coolant. Keep in mind the EcoBoost is Petrol Only.

Yes I imagined the petrol ones would be water cooled.
